Judder/noise at slow traffic speeds

Featured Replies

Bought 1.8T L&K Estate recently and after few days noticed a slight problem which I missed during test drive.

At low speeds, say - creeping slowly in second gear along town or motorway traffic, without foot on clutch, just letting dual mass flywheel do the job - when I accelerate ever so slightly there is an intermittant juddering/rumbling noise, identical to the rumble you get when you try to accelerate in too high gear for the speed except obviously, creeping in 2nd, there is no lower gear to use.

If I let go off the accelerator as the car slows down back to creeping speed there is no judder or noise on the way down. Delicately touching accelerator pedal after a while again sends the gearbox into the same crunching/rumbling vibrations. Clutch pedal, to my liking, is slightly on heavy side, but it doesn't slip, as far as I can tell, and I live on very steep hill. I can feel miniscule uneven vibrations if I delicately put my foot on clutch pedal at speed, which is something new, never had that in any car before. But that's about all oddities I've noticed.

I'm not sure what's causing this noise/vibration. Help?

Mileage? Wondering about possibility of clutch or flywheel wear.

Possible then, but I'd want a trustworthy garage to look at it if it was mine.
