Octavia dash dials, should they light up?

Featured Replies

Do they or dont they? The 3 dials on the dash.

Any clues? :thumbup::rofl:

Where? On the instrument cluster or on the heater?

Yes to both anyway.

Sorry, the heater controls. My friend has had an Octavia and a Bora come in and neither are working. Just wondered whether it was a trait or a fault.

Cheers.

No, the bulb has gone. In the Octavia it's a 1.2w 5mm bulb and not too hard to change - 2 mins. maximum:

Open the ashtray and pull the centre console trim off.

Carefully pull the heater control kn0bs off - you'll probably need pliers for that part.

Next, the Haynes book will tell you to use a bit of rubber tubing for this but that's time-consuming and silly. Take a small, flat-bladed screwdriver and prise open two of the clips which hold the front of the switch surround one at a time (there's one on each side at the top corner IIRC). The switch surround will then pop off and you can pull the bulb out with your fingers.

Fit the new bulb, replace the switch surround, control kn0bs and refit the centre console trim.

Close the ashtray.

Turn on your lights and admire all you hard work.

I suspect the Bora might be a similar process to this as it's a VAG car, but I could be wrong.
