Coolant temp from cold

Featured Replies

hi folks

ive just had my car hooked up to vagcom and the coolant temp is 29.9c from flat cold

is this normal as my car runs like a bag of spanners when cold,

hoping this is the answer to my running issues no faults on vagcom just noticed the temp

cheers for any info

Is that cold as in "standing overnight" cold? If so, I really don't think it can be right.

Yep thats cold as in 2 days without been run cold

so i would have thought the coolant temp would be around 0 to 3 with the weather as is

just never used vagcom on another car so unsure as to whether its supposed to display that temp on the measuring blocks but i do find it a strange reading :thumbdwn:

does the sensor have a minimum reading or vag com come to think of it ?

Anyone?

At the risk of sounding like a scratched record: "Coolant temp sensor?"

:thumbdwn:seems to be getting worst sometimes in a morning when i go to work (3am )

the car starts fine and seems to run at 1200rpm but when i try to set of it just seems to drop the power to the point i think its stalled itself(it doesnt) it just will not go even with the 5000 rpm attempted start think the weather is playing apart i.e bloodycold

still no faults on vag com and temp sensor seems to match the ambient temp now when cold

car still splutters whilst driving (like its missing hot or cold but bad whilst cold not too bad whilst warm

cars starting to get on my man boobs as i want to get her mapped but i need her to be right beforehand

for the price of a sensor it's worth changing - mine was reading reasonable values on Vagcom, but was a tit to start when it was warm - changed the sensor and it's been fine ever since.

If it's a black coloured sensor then I'd certainly replace it for the newer green version.

Are you sure you want to get it remapped. Judging by your signature i would say you are leaning toward scrapped. :D

Cannot justify running another volvo thanks to gordon bleeding brown less it would get scrapped, into the chuffpipe of a wagon:eek:

dont really mind the car just hate the sputtering and white carpets, lack of power:thumbdwn:

If i get a chance I'll read my coolant temp from cold tomorrow.....

Are you sure you've got the right units because 29.9 degrees farenheit is -1.1 degress celcius :(

Hi i have a black Octy VRS and suffer the same problem, when temp is around 0degC or less when i key on i get the coolant warning light comes on which goes after a key off and on again. Also occasionally normally when had really cold weather i get the same almost stalling of the car when first start to drive away. It just idles at around 600rpm spluttering. This goes away after a few mins of driving tho. It is really irritating....

yeh, dont know if its the coolant temp sensor but my mate(mechanic) reckons change it for the price of it just not got round to it yet as its too cold for me to go outside lol.

my car starts and seems fine sometimes whilst really cold, its when i get in and fire her up and try to set of straight away it seems to affect the revs as when the cars okay it ticks over at 1200 to 1300rpm for 30 secs etc and drives okay but if i start her up the try to set of within 30 secs it just splutteres to a halt and the revs drop down to 600rpm(like its choking up/or missing.

will update you when i change it as there only £20 ish

The first 30 secs or so at startup is when the secondary airpump is working you should hear it click off and the revs die down.If this is leaking or not running properly you will experience probs at startup. The air pump is covered quite well on this forum and there is even a link to rebuilding it.

Change the sensor also log the readings as it warms up. The sensor is not showing a fault as it is reading within its parameters. I have sussed a few running problems just by looking at the temperature readings and applying a little common sense. VAG Com will read in Celsius so the arguement about Fahrenheit is invalid.
