Brunters symptoms worse...

Featured Replies

Hullo

I started the car this morning from cold, and bloody hell, it was rough, even by my usual standards. There was a real moaning and groaning coming from somewhere. As I set off I got the usual clutch lift off graunching, but this time as I pootled along at 1mph and tickover in first (clutch fully lifted) the graunch was still slightly evident... Why does this make me think the gearbox is fooked??? :( However, all the power is still there and there is no graunching once past about 1300RPM. It's all low-down in the rev-range.

The graunching also got no better once I'd travelled the 20 miles to work... All through rush hour traffic I was trying to not hold the car on the clutch as it was making a real bad noise still. At least the knocking in the back has gone now the tyre is pumped up (going to repair today)

Unfortunately it sounds like I'm going to have to get the new Skoda dealer to listen to the noises and drive her a bit... Shame I'm out of warranty as it would have been handy for a new gearbox, should it be needed... If it's needed where would be the best place to source one? skospares?

Yours worryingly... :D

still sounds like clutch to me.......

dont blame brunters blame the nutter behind the wheel.....

 Little old moi? giving it f*** around brunters? noooooo :D

Thanks for the assurances because a new clutch is cheaper than a box... So, who has any ideas for sources for an uprated, stronger clutch for the Fabia... Clearly the standard one is not up to the 280 lb/ft I was putting through it on Saturday... Anyone? :D

Sounds like the clutch here too.

But then, if you had kept it on the roof you wouldnt be worrying about the clutch or 'box at all would you.

I exit car after an exhausting session on track... Paul comes charging up to me hand outstretched...

Paul: "CONGRATULATIONS, Jason!"

Me: "eh?" [shaking hand]

Paul: "You've done TWO sessions on track and not put it on it's roof"

Me: "Oh, thank you very much..." (not sure if to grin or curse :D - I grinned)

Paul - never got a chance to speak about you know what... ;)
