Broadband options: Anyone with Plus Net ?

Featured Replies

I only use broadband at home for occasional surfing, banking and MSN. Therefore most packages are a little OTT for my needs.

I've found these people:

Home Broadband  <  PlusNet  |  Home Broadband Internet Packages UK

They offer a £9.99 package with a 1 month contract, sounds ideal - but has anyone tried them?

I have got them on the £19.99 package ...they used to be terrible especially the support but they were taken over by BT a year ago and to be honest things have got a lot better.......scoobychris is also with them and as far as I know has had no problems at all

Been with them for 6+ years now I think and have only had one problem in that time (which turned out to be my router :o). Highly recommended, but do remember they throttle speed and also have download limits. Throttling speed can be worked around, but the download limits are hard and fast (for peak time anyway) :D

Chris

Used to be with +Net and TBH the service was good, but they throttle everything they can (doesnt look like this is going to be a problem for you) The package i had was £15 a month and when I wanted to leave because Sky offered the same for £5, I took about 2 months for them to let me go. maybe this has changed, now they have been taken over by BT??

Hi there,

I think this is probably just about the last place I expected to find us (PlusNet) being discussed. It's fantastic!

It's been mentioned about our throttling processes. We're actually really open about this and we've even got a page on our site dedicated to showing you what sort of speeds you should expect during various times of the day. you can find this here.

G-slave, I'm sure that if you ever were to return to us, you would be very impressed. We've continued to invest in our Customer Support Centre, our network capacity as well as our general infrastructure. We've already won three awards this year (uSwitch, Computer Shopper, Custom PC) which stand testament to the improvements that we have been making and continue to do so.

If anyone has any questions about our service at all, I would be more than happy to answer them.

Kind Regards,

James Bailey

I'm with +net and never had any problems.

Although i am about to get intouch with them to change my monthly charge.

I don't need to be paying £26.99 a month anymore.`

So James, what would be the best tariff for me?

Only use internet for email, and surfing now,and i don't use it all day either.

£26.99 is a bit to much for me now.

Ohhh :)

Well I've had my parents on plusnet for years and was seriously thinking of leaving them. TBH i really do hope they have improved as the customer service I received was shocking.

I used to work for an ISP and some of the utter cr*p that the call centre guys came out with was stunning.

Just two of the many examples:

- I can see the plusnet network/routers but not getting any connectivity.

* Call guy says it is a BT fault with my line:confused:

- I ask them to phone parents as they have no service.

* Parents hear nothing I check to find all question on the online system even though they have no connectivity so can't answer.

Hopefully you have improved now BT have acquired the company, but only time will tell.

Interesting :)

Who did you work for and what did you use to do?

Proving connectivity issues can often, as I'm sure that you will be aware can often be problematic. These generally refer to synchronisation loss from the exchange to the router or modem at your house and vice versa. These are generally caused by hardware issues, poor internal wiring, a problem on the line or the exchange itself. It's very rare for a connectivity issue being down to the ISP itself.

However, it is absolutely down to us to ensure that you are given a decent explanation as to what the problem may or may not be and that we handle to process where the fault is reported to BT or raised internally where required. Clearly this didn't happen in your case and I hope you'll accept my apologies for this.

James,

I have been with PlusNet for around 6 years as well.

Any chance of a Briskoda discount ;)

Does everything I need, and P2P is not too bad off-peak.

I get regularly decent speeds and have not had many problems since I have been a customer (lost emails apart).

Cheers,

Steven

Hi Steven,

Glad you're enjoying our service!

If you are happy to commit to a 12 month contract I'll be more than happy to knock £5 off of your subscription for the next 6 months :)

Ahhh got that email ;)

Incidentally, after saying all this I have raised a ticket tonight as my connection speeds are pretty poor at the moment.

Hopefully things will be resolved quickly.

Hi Steven,

It certainly should be, yes.

During a period of planned maintenance on one of our gateways, one of our centrals went down. Whilst we do have resiliency (6 BT Centrals in total) this has caused the other gateways to be more busy than usual. We're doing some ongoing work to restore the balance to our network and bring things back to normal.

I won't say who I used to work for as I still do a bit for them from time to time and would rather not advertise. They are however a medium sized ISP with a business focus.

The work I used to do was as is always the case with smaller companies varied.

Some of the stuff i used to do was deal with collocated NT Servers, some of the Mail Systems (mainly Mailscanner/AV), Usenet servers and the network connectivity when the main guy was away.

Having to have particularly troublesome customers put through to me occasionally I can understand how annoying we can be.

At the same time there were occasions when the front line staff had somebody who knew what they were on about and just wanted a "sorry it should be ok in x hours" rather than a long winded have you tried this list and you can see why they got annoyed.

Still like you say keeping a network up and running is definitely not an easy task. Especially with some of the "special" people on the net who decide it is fun to attack ISP's machines or just take the p*ss on downloading "warez" 24/7.

:)

been with them since broadband came to our area and havent had any problems apart from the odd bit of downtime over the years. Im soon to move off them as our company has been taken over and the new owners provide free broadband
