grinding noise

Featured Replies

Had this grinding noise when going round left hand bends. Also sometimes I get a popping sound when I straighten up out of the bend.

Took the car to Skoda, who after a test drive and a look on the ramps said ant roll bar.

I then took the car to Honda where I purchased the car. They said the anti roll bar was fine and that the problem mite be a CV joint.

Any input would be great.

With a vRS I'd think the ARB (bushes or drop link) is more likely than the CV joint.

Had the car long? If not, then let Honda give you a free CV joint, and maybe an ARB to follow.

Yea I know the arb is a common failure on Octys.

But I had the arb go on my previous vrs, so I do know how the car feels and sounds when this goes. Which is not this noise.

As for how long I have owned the car?

I’ve almost had the car a year so the 12 months warranty is almost up this is why I am trying to sort the problems out now.

I also booked the car in early for its mot.

To see if any problems arise.

Could be wheel bearing does it happen/stop when direction is changed?

only get the sound when going round left hand bends at normal speed or going briskly.

I've not yet had to replace a wheel bearing on the Octavia, but the three I've had on other cars tended to resonate and buzz louder at particular speeds (e.g. on one car it was 35mph and 70mph). Also louder when that wheel is loaded by cornering, so right-hand-sides buzz louder when turning left.

You could try jacking up one side of the car and attempting to rock each wheel top-to-bottom and left-to-right - if it wobbles, the bearing's gone. Also see whether you can hear or feel the grinding as you rotate the wheel.

When mine went there was no wheel wobble or roughness when jacked up. You could tell when driving by the grinding when changing direction though.

Oh okay, fair enough. Admitedly, these were older cars I'm talking about - M-reg and F-reg.

I would do as Will says though as they are certainly tell tale signs

Have already tried jacking car up so has Skoda and Honda. Still no definitive answer off them.
