Quad core question

Featured Replies

I run folding in the background on my new system

But when I look in task manager it's only using 25% of the cpu power avaliable

So how do I get it running at full chat??

Do I need to run multiple clients

You are basically using all of one core, leaving the other 3 idle. To get full chat at 100% you would need to install 4 console clients, in different folders and run each one with a different cpu number. Jasons tip on the top of the folding forum shows how.

Or run the SMP client...

And how do I do that then:confused:

the smp client is no good if you turn your computer off at night because, not only does it not checkpoint meaning your WUs would restart at each reboot, the deadlines are very tight. The SMP version is fine on machines that run 24/7.

I knew about the tight deadlines, but didn't know it didn't checkpont. I've not tried it yet because I've only got dual cores, but I'm going to give it a go and see what happens.
