Help with internet disconecting

Featured Replies

I have windows Vista, and I have both wireless and LAN both of them seem to work fine for up to 40 mins, but then it will disconnect from the internet, somtimes the network thinks it is still connected, but it is not. The only way I can seem to get it working again is to re start. any ideas please?

How many other computers on the network?

Laptop or desktop?

ADSL modem/router or just a router?

Is the disconnect time always consistent?

What symptoms are you getting when it disconnects? "page cannot be displayed" message for instance?

Does the email also disconnect at the same time?

All these questions..........

Welcome to the wonderful world of Vista:mad: Using a Laptop is a pain with Vista, after you wake it up from sleep, it sometimes thinks its connected but isn’t, except for those times when it says it isn’t connected, but is. Bloody rubbish O.S. at the mo, hope the first S.P. fixes it. Oh 'repair' sometimes cures it, but then again, sometimes it doesn't:(

Another reason I am still running XP despite getting the Windows 'Fister' upgrade discs from Dell

its a desktop, the time is random but around about 30-40 mins and the sleep is disabled, trying to download crysis from EA having just paid for it, its a wirles router, but i am using LAN cable at the moment, it displays the can't display web page and everything internet wise goes off, it cant diagnose the fault even after restarting the connection, and there is also a lapton on my network, wireless that can still get internet when I loose mine. hope this helps thanks

Is the laptop on Vista or XP?

Could be that your router doesn't like the Vista machine.

There are reported issues with Vista disconnecting under high load conditions such as downloading massive EA files

There may be known router issues with Windows Vista, you need to find out what hardware you are using (internal network card and router make) and make sure they are compatible with Vista.

both on vista

If wireless, make sure your wifi drivers are bang upto date.

Go to the makers site (HP, DEll etc) and get the latest drivers.

My machine seemed to bork during a WPA key change, and vista would not re-awaken wifi without a reboot.

New drivers seems to have sorted it (intel Pro 3945)
