Multichanger + CDRW discs...

Featured Replies

Does anyone use CDRWs in their Multichanger?

i have a Fabia VRS SE and tried one as a test but it didn't seem to like it, however that might have been because i used windows media player rather than something like NERO to burn the disc.

the head unit seemed a bit and miss as to whether it would play the disc or not, so i was wondering whether it was the disc or the changer!

I dont think they play CDRW's at all, very few music CD players can handle CDRW. Normal CDR's are however no problem.

You'll need something like nero to close, or finalise, the disk.

Without this, CD players dont get the data they need

Yea, I burn my discs with nero and had no problem with the multichanger on the octy. That's with lots of different brands of cds too.

I can get CDRs to work in mine but not CDRWs.

CD-RWs will rarely work, and if they do, will only work once

audio players can only read them the first time they're burnt

Cheers guys!

oh well, thats a good idea down the drain!! I thought that if i just stocked the Car up with CDRWs i could change the contents of the discs when i got bored, rather than use CDRs.

damn i miss my dension!!

I thought this to and had burnt all 6 discs before finding it out.

you can however use a CD-RW and an MP3 reading player, since it's only the audio layer that can only be burnt once, the data layer is fine :)

i have used a CD-RW on many occasssions with no problems (formatted and re-written) in the front player this is with MP3 files and not audio files. i have been using cheapy Lidl CD-RW. i use roxio to write discs.

which is what I just said :)

it's the AUDIO layer of the disc that can only be written once, the DATA layer (which is where MP3 files go) can be written many

surely regardless if its audio or data the disc is still erasable, if you look at real audio they are purely a data file in a format that can be read by CD players

i had the same troubles i firstly used cdrw and found them to be useless in my octy changer however cdr's work fine. possibly because cdrw's dont get the same closing signature that cdr's get as they can be re opened and re written.

Cheers guys!

cdr's cost less than 20p each, why worry about binning one when you are bored of it?

well, if you want to get like that, yes... it's all a series of 1's and 0's, but it is the formatting of them that makes the difference.

both will contain a musical track, but a musical CD is compiled and burnt in a different way (with many more do's and don'ts) than a data CD.

regardless, my point still stands: the vast majority of CD players will NOT read a CD-RW that has had an audio layer written previously, and some CD players will not take a CD-RW at all.

Bab's, I wasn't trying to dispute your theory. Many players have difficulty playing CDRW's so Adam K is right in a way... Why worry about wasting a 20p CDR. Anyway I dont have to worry as my Octy VRS has the AUX input so IPOD rules the car, CD changer is empty.
