Jeez that must take some doing.

Is it a material failure or has it hit something?

RAC patrol confrimed what we already knew, also phoned skoda assist back to confirm the track rod end is covered under warranty good news it is.

As for material failure or has it hit anything l don't know stu? All l know is that it is busted. The RAC guy said that we were very lucky that we made it home tonight. The OSF track rod ends threads were totally stripped where the rod screws into the steering box side. it was just rattling around inside hence the clunking

Will keep you guys updated

Andy

I'd agree that if the Track Rod end has broken you were lucky to get home, it really shouldn't be driven.

I'd imagine that Skoda will be very interested to get their hands on the part to inspect it.

RAC guy said the track rod has marks on the shaft thtat indicate that the track rod has been removed at some point by someone other than ourselves.

Tyre fitters are notorious for using stilsons and molegrips for adjusting tracking so that might explain the marking.
