INSP flashing on the little screen

Featured Replies

Morning all,

For the last few days I have had a little message saying INSP on the right hand screen on the clocks. Now I think and I am hoping it is just because the car hasn't been serviced by a Skoda dealer recently and was done by a back street garage who didn't reset the little service spanner?

I have checked oil and other fluids but just wondering if there is anything else I should check before taking it to the dealer? Also will they remove the message or do I need to invest in VAG COM to do this?

Thanks

Andy

That text implies that your car is due an inspection service. If the service was done in the last 2 or 3,000 miles then all they did was forget to reset the service interval display.

In my car, to reset it you:

a) Press and hold the button below the speedo with the ignition off

B) Turn the ignition on

c) Release the button, and then turn the button clockwise.

The display then reads ---- and the service interval has been reset.

Strangely I've read three, four or even five different ways of resetting the display but that's the only one that works on my car (1.9SDI with engine code ASY)

Before you reset it I'd check with more experienced members here to see if it has to be done by a skoda retailer to not void the warranty...

The only requirement as regards servicing and the warranty is that the work is done at a VAT-registered garage. As for the reset procedure, it does indeed vary from car to car, and the method specific to yours will be in your manual.

The only other thing is that the lubricant service and the inspection service are two different things, so just to be on the safe side, you may want to check exactly what it was that your garage did, because the inspection service is required every year or 20k, with an 'interim' oil service every 10k if required. This causes all sorts of headaches if you don't do multiples of 10k every year (like me), so it comes down to deciding whether the do the oil service at less than 10k, and then the inspection service annually, or to do the inspection service based on mileage and not on time. Personally, I get an inspection service done every year at MoT time, and have an oil service approximately six months after that. This avoids shelling-out for an oil service only to discover I need an inspection service a short time after...

Hope this helps

Thanks for replies, its out of warranty so I'm not too fussed about reseting it myself!

Thanks again :D

does that INSP reset trick also reset the trip ?

No, if done correctly it retains the trip... when in the process of resetting the INSP display, the trip counter does display 0.0, but once complete the recorded milage returns...
