DSG heaven

Featured Replies

my 1.9 DSG has been off the road for a number of weeks (long story on another thread) and I have been running around in a variety of dealers cars, including a Fabia II 1.9 and a Octy 1.9 - all manuals.

I began to think I didn't really need an auto and could go back to a manual when my next change came around.

But, got mine back on Thursday and I'm in heaven, I have forgotten how well it compliments the 1.9 and how brilliantly smooth it is:):):):):):):)

Also have run the manual octy for 4 weeks I can confirm that (on my regular commute) the DSG actually returns marginally better MPG. Although the courtesy car was fairly low mileage and will likely improve a little.

I had a 1.9TDi Octy DSG as a courtesy car the other week - most impressive. :)

Only slight niggle was it liked to change gear at slightly higher revs than I do in my Octy, but that aside it was good, pulled well for a 1.9 too.

I found that when I moved from my first Octy to the DSG, but the 'box has an "intelligent brain" and adapts to your driving style over time.

Just to say I agree that the DSG is exceptional. I have had auto cars for 14 years, and this is the best. Over my first 14500 miles I got 43.6mpg, but in the last 200 that had increased to 44.3mpg as the car was run in. That is driven, as the Briskoda site says, "briskly", and compares to the book 45.6. I've now had my Octavia for just over 2 years, and done 42000 miles. I should check again. Its stopped using oil, which it did from around 5000 to 30,000. My only issue is that just occasionally i'd like a bit more power and 4wd. I keep hoping that Skoda will bring us a 170ps version of the DSG!

woo, DSG is still a dream for OCTY fans in China.

No DSG available for the whole OCTY series here in China. Fortunately, the Tiptronic gear is good enough for daily driving fun.

Hopefully, SKD will introduce VRS into China in 2008, with DSG available then, but it won't sell well, as I reckon, because it may be at about the same price for a BMW 3 series. Undoubtfully, VRS is good, however, SKD brand is not at all comparable to BMW here...

Apparently the intelligent brain in my Octavia DSG seems to think that I like stalling at traffic lights and in traffic queues and replicates this with gusto.
