ipod or mp3 into mfd2

Featured Replies

I just bought a 07 vrs tdi estate.

1, what control of mp3 or ipod will i have though mfd2?

2, I have ordered bluetooth phone kit aftermarket one will this work with mfd2 and maxidot? it cost £200.

err thats it for now ipic it up next fri and will do some pics.

thanks in advance

In short - none. The AUX input to the MFD2 is entirely passive as in it listens to what comes in and pumps it out to the speakers.

It all depends on what bluetooth kit you have ordered. The OEM kit will work with the maxidot but I don't think any of the aftermarket efforts will.

If you do a search for MFD2 (search button at the top) you will unearth no end of information about that particular sat nav unit.

There is better control for the iPod via the Dension Ice-Link, again, a search will provide a wealth of information on that one.

thanks for that will do more searching and reading, i think it is the oem, he said that it wouldn't work with the tele button on the mfd2 tho. skoda need to sort out its own bluetooth

Skoda are crazy not to offer bluetooth with any of their cars in the UK, they offer it elsewhere so why the hell isn't it at least an option in the UK???

The MFD3 is a clear step forward though.

it is plain ridiculous the restraints the parent company put on skoda, in terms of options, engines and gear boxes, all its shows is they know skoda can do it cheaper and just as good. will look into the denison ice thingy, found one on fleabay says its compatible with audi navi plus is this the same thing.

I have the Dension ice link system on my Octy II, which is connected to my MDF2. The plugs and clips live in my glovebox and enable the user to plug up and clip securely into place an ipod of either standard or nano size, as both mounting clips are supplied. Also any USB flash drive can be plugged into the appropriate adapter, although not at the same time as the ipod, and any mp3, WMA etc can be played off it. Also there is provision for a line in, via a pair of phono leads. With hindsight I should have had the ipod mounted in the cubby to the right of the steering wheel as the ipod menu is not very visible when it lives in the glovebox. As usual the first 5 playlists can be accessed as well as ‘Play all’ and the 6th CD button accesses the ipod menu for selection of ‘Albums’ ‘Artists’ etc as well as charging conditions for the ipod. Also the shuffle feature still works from the MDF2 menu. The steering wheel controls work as you would expect them too. The clever bit of this system is the change-over switch on the unit. This means you can keep your CD autochanger and select between it and the ipod/USb/Phono combination. It also requires the ignition to be switched off between the reselection of these 2 positions, which I think is a good thing as it shows that the switch isn’t a passive one with audio running through it and therefore liable to get gritty as time goes by. The sound quality is really quite good (for mp3) as the ipod is playing from it’s line-out rather than through it’s rather poor 3.5mm headphone out and the USB sounds pretty good too although I have noticed a little alternator type whine inducted onto the MDF2 from the Dension unit when listening to the ipod, I will chase up the fitters about it. One other thing is the MDF2 doesn’t display the ID3 tags, but I guess most peeps knew that anyway.

so how do you sus out what song ur gonna play by listening to the first few seconds. or photographic memory of the filepaths.

I will generally stick my iPod on all random, I don't have an IceLink going to my MDF2 sat nav ;)

I personally use ‘the Force’, if you have trouble with this you can try prescience.

Hth

Besides, I leave my iPod on the passenger seat and I can see what's going on without too many problems.

If you want ID3's you'll need to save up and get an MFD3

The MFD3 is a clear step forward though.

In Portugal, Bluetooth comes as standard on some models of Octy2 (mine came with Audience and Bluetooth as standard). Anyway, we can order it as an extra for any Octy model.

Thanks for the feedback, the car I have bought already had the mfd 2 in and lots of other toys, for a good price. Did consider getting new with mfd3, the price diff would have been about £3k+. Not worth it right now. I will wait until they are reasonably priced on fleabay. How difficult is it to swap the two units over, is it same conectors and antenna?

The head unit ( which is MP3 CD compatible ) will read the tags and display them on the screen in huge text that even the back seat passengers can read. Full access to songs and albums is available through the MFD2 buttons. I had fully intended using the 'AUX in' socket to connect my MP3 player but the lack of control, the loss in quality and the dodgy business of trying to operate the player whilst driving made me re-consider.

I have burned 12 audio CD's worth of music onto each MP3 CD at a bit rate of 128kbps. Sound 'quality' ( apologies to any audio buffs out there ) is perfect as far as I can tell. I'm not sure the system is good enough to warrant a higher bit rate. It may be ok at lower bit rates.

If you have the kit to make an MP3 CD ( ie. a newish PC with a CD burner ) this is worth considering.

10 minute job as long as you have the right torx bit, i'm waiting for them to appear on the bay so I can snap one up.

You would eventually need to recode the car with VAG-COM (5 minute job) but it's not an immediate problem.
