Amp Power Cable. Fabia

Featured Replies

Now I have my Kenwood head unit repaired and fitted I want to start my ice install. The question is, whats the best way of routing the power cable from the engine bay into the cabin?

Cheers

Drill a big feckin' hole through the bulkhead! ;) Best place is behind the glovebox, right next to where the washer fluid pipe comes through (as there's nothing dangerous behind to drill in to) Normal disclaimers apply! :P

Thought I might have to do something like that. :D

DAD! where's your drill...

Unless you go for enormous capacity cable like our Jason, I *think* there's some sort of hole there already...

Definitely go down the passenger side of the car for the power cable though.

And your willing to take advice from Jason on matters of the car??

Before you do m8, say your prayers, Hail Marys and invest in a rabbits foot.

Then get backup info, then continue. :D

Nothing against Jason you understand....just remembering his past actions :D

Look around either the bonnet release cable or where the rear screenwash pipe goes through, these are usually good points of entry.

I tried to squeeze my 80amp cable next to the screenwash one (the one I was referring to in post #2) but there's simply not enough room, and the 80a cable is not that thick (compared to 170a welding cable at least! ) You don't really need a big hole, and with the right drill bit, it really was a total doddle to get through.

Tip #1: Don't tug on washer fluid pipe - I managed to pull mine apart and guess what...

Tip #2: Pull that insulation / carpet cr4p out the way first. Once caught in your drill bit it is a BEE-YACH to get off...

Above tips are from prior experience of my previous two power laying expeditions! ;)

I just did mine last weekend. As above, just go through where the rear wash wipe pipe goes through, behind the glove box. I managed to get a 10mm cable through with just a little opening out of the hole with a file. Even managed to use the same grommit.

Thanks for the advice. Will go and check out my options in a bit. But think I might have to go the drill but feckin hole in bulk head route as I have a 4 guage cable to get through.

Thanks for the link Quinten. Will have a look now.
