Felicia 1.3 charging system

Featured Replies

Hi, when I'm driving in wet weather the battery light is comming on an lights start to dim and the windscrean wipers are slowing down, sometimes i can hear belt squeking and engine don't want to start. Can anybody help? Thanks

Sounds like the alternator has packed up. Same thing happened to the 1.3 we took to Prague and back. New alternator brought it back to life though. :)

Cost between £70 & £100, pretty easy to fit, charge your battery whilst you're fetching/fitting it & it will be ready to run once you've put the battery back in.

if the belt is squeeking doesn't it mean that it is too loose? Try and tightening it up to see if the condition improves as it may not be charging the battery properly or renewing the belt if there is too much travel

^^^ Good point! :D

Never overlook the obvious

I found that if you fit the tensioner first, the belt twists the top boltholes on the alternator out of line..

and if you fit the alternator first, you cant get the tensioner tightened....

14 hrs in a cold garage- my idea of a heavenly weekend:rofl:
