my tv exploded

Featured Replies

A good source of info is here - AVForums Home

I have a Samsung 42" Plasma that I've been very happy with. Bought mine from John Lewis as they price match almost anyone and include a free 5 year warranty with all TV's.

I'll second Stu on AVForums. I spend far too much time on there too!

What kind of size are you after? Presumably 40-42 inch area?

I could recommend a few, but my opinion's hardly unbiassed :D

P.S You could ask a certain Chris what he thinks of his new telly tonight ;)

gotta be 40 or 42, got to be on ticky though as i'm skint this close to christmas, dont really want to be spending much more than a grand, want a good all rounder, want to be able to plug my pc in, console, sky+ so its got to be good hd but with the sky+ i dont want that to look cr*p.

I've seen this Toshiba 42X3030DB - LCD Television - Digital Direct

which seems pretty cheap compared to its newer counterpart

Toshiba 42Z3030 - LCD Television - Digital Direct

I'm not sure if the extra 300 is worth it?

I was told at the time of researching that if you want best picture over 37" then go plasma.

Bought a 42" Regza Tosh from John Lewis back in feb. Excellent picture, did debate between Plasma and LCD and in the end decided LCD was the way to go. As mentioned John Lewis will price match and give a 5 year warrenty  Another TOP TIP if you are buying from John Lewis, get yourself a MBNA credit card, order John Lewis vouchers via the MBNA rewards scheme and get 10% off, so £1k of vouchers only cost £900 :D:D

cheers guys, what do you reckon on that price for the 42" x series tosh, £735, seems pretty cheap

Good price but delivery is £50 and then the 5 year warrenty is £199. If the warrenty is unimportant then a good deal. JL won't price match with online traders only, however Empire Direct do have collect stores and this is who I Matched with. Toshiba 42X3030DB Ctv Lcd 42" 16:9 Freeview 1080p | EmpireDirect.co.uk Electrical Appliances

At £850 slightly dearer, but get the Price match at JL and get 5 year warrenty, If you do as I suggest avbove and pay in gift vouchers bought with an MBNA credit card you will end up with the telly and 5 year warrenty for £765 :D

SORRY MY bad, just checked it would appear that John Lewis are no longer partners with MBNA SORRY

they have it in comet, i could get 3% off using quidco and get a price match, i'm just wondering if they would price match digital direct (being less than ten miles away)

I could just say something along the lines of

"yeah sure, digital direct said no problem with collection"

if this worked it would be around £710;)

Noticed, whilst checking the MBNA site you can get 7% off Love to shop vouchers which are accepted at Comet if that helps MBNA Europe - MBNA Lifestyle

entry code is MBNA

Depends how important a 5 year warrenty is to you wether you shop at JL and pay a higher price.

I've used the JL warranty on mine to have the power supply changed - great service.

I have the 42X3030D, choose it after a few weeks looking through reviews and searching AVForums.

Absolutely brilliant TV for the XBox, HD Stuff, PC connected and showing downloaded material that's been encoded well.

Not as good showing SD material such as Sky through a scart cable. I'll be getting HD early in the new year though which may help a little bit.

I’ve a Pioneer Kuro 428X 42’’ Plasma and the ‘Blacks’ are simply the best I have ever seen in a non CRT telly. Sorry LCD fans, but the true contrast ratio and colours on these latest Pioneer tellies are stunning:thumbup:. Having said that, they are a bit pricy compared with LCD.:thumbdwn:

I think these tellies have the best picture on the market at present, but I would say that as i have shelled out my hard earned on one:D
