i was told today that royal mail vans (you know the red transit vans) are NOT insured.. because they have the royal insignia - they dont have to be.

is this true? if so, wouldnt wanna hit one.... discuss

False

ALL vehicles on the UK road must be insured for legal purposes.

RM will have insurance supplied under a corporate policy. Provided drivers meet certain criteria they will be insured.

I have driven vans under a companies "generic" policy.

If not always take the details of van reg and van number.

thats what i thought... didnt see how it could be possible.

i was actually a bit narked off, one managed to beat me off the lights this morning (although he had a 6ft headstart and it was only about a 50ft sprint to the next lights) which is how i came about into the convo about it..

they used to be like the army, police ect and be crown exempt, you still got paid out if one hit you,now i think they are all insured by roper insurance.

I can assure you ALL Royal Mail vehicles are taxed, MOT'd and insured!!! Once upon a time Royal Mail or GPO or whatever it was called at the time used to 'insure' themselves but with today's litigation mad society and the fact that the service isn't a service anymore it's subject to 'normal' rules and regulations. Also the drivers are subject to drivers hours and tachograph regulations the same as any private company, and being government owned they are very hot on this!
