Best tyres for 16" rims?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what the best tyres to stick on 16" rims would be. I'm not sure what the furby vRS standard tyres are - are they 45 or 50 profile. I did bid on some 205/50 brand new Michelin Primacys, but didn't bother bidding it up after Toxxin's offer of tyres.

I did some calculations and found that the 205/50 R16 combination is 5.6% bigger around than my stock 185/60 R14.

Also, 205/50 R16 tyres are only 2%(ish) bigger than my 17" setup, i.e 205/40 R17.

Edit: Also 205/45R16 setup is only 0.8% smaller than 205/40 R17

So the question is do I go for 205/45 or 205/50. I'd prefer the bigger rolling radius for mileage clocking up reasons, but are 45s the proper one to go for for my furby?

I think they are...

Although a quick search on mytyres has brought up that 205/45 R16s are more money than 205/40 R17s... :( Let's hope the Toxxin's ones are a bit cheaper... ;)

Round ones are best. ;)

215/40 is the closest to the original rolling diameter. 195/45 is an option, as is 205/40.

There is a cost impact with these different tyres sizes though. Knowing the sort of tyres you buy, I've given an example of prices:

215/40 -

All the sizes I listed are cheaper than the 17s Jason

Oh and the 712 aren't bad tyres. IIRC both Nick and Lee run them.

So, who knows much about Bridgestone Turanza's, as they're the most likely candidate for being put on these 16s. Hmmm? :D

These were an option for my 18'' alloys....Micheldever says they don't come in the right load rating....apparently need XL.

Would have been around

My 2 cents worth........205 45 16s, cos they are common sizes....much better than

215 40 16s , 195 45 16s , 205 40 16s. These are pretty uncommon, cos in the end even if they were cheaper, availability poses a big problem when you do need to change tyres !!

Some comments on Kumho though........am not trying to be funny but these are good in the dry.........BUT totally suck in the wet !! Believe you me us drivers out here in the far east DO experience a lot of water.........the only plus point for the Kumhos are that they are cheap !!

 :P

Jason, Turanza? In a word, NO!
