Wipers/fusebox

Featured Replies

My front wipers stopped working half way to work this morning, "blown fuse" I thought. Checked on here and on Stu's v useful Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page at the fuse box diagram and ascertained that fuse #15 had blown. Swapped it with 13 (reversing light) and wipers working ok again.

But.....

Still no action from the washer jets. Now I'm pretty sure the water isn't frozen (but I could be wrong), so I thought "another blown fuse." Reading the manual and Stu's site, it looks like 21 is the position for the washer jets. So I looked. And I looked again. I don't have a 5A fuse at position 21. In fact I don't have any fuses at position 21.

Any ideas?

(PS My local Halfords also don't seem to stock mini blade 10A fuses, so I'm currently stuck without a reversing light until I manage to pick one up somewhere else.)

is the washer pump deffo not working ?

if its working but you have no water at the screen i suspect the pipe has blown apart with the frozen water

another wiper issue?

Was there an issue last winter with wipers?

Sorry guys, the water must have frozen (it was -7 here yesterday!) - it's working fine now.

Still confused as to why I don't have a fuse at position 21, but everything's working ok so I won't let it worry me!

Cheers

Are your wipers working now McS****y? Strange how they stopped even if it was only the water that froze though.

Haven't checked to see if I have a fuse in 21, car is at garage so will have a look in tonight to see if was the same issue you were having.

The wipers started working when I switched fuses 13 and 15. (Fuse 15 has definitely blown, the poor wee thing is sitting on my desk right now.)

The washer jets or the water itself must have been frozen, which in turn has caused the fuse to go. Do a search on 'wipers' and look at posts around this time last year and you'll see people that had the same problem. (My back wiper started coming on when I pulled the stalk towards me to 'skoosh' the front windscreen, bizarre!!)

Cheers

Just phoned local Skoda dealer and they have had 10 in today with same problem

Hopefully thats all mine is!

Pretty sure that's all it will be.

I've ordered a few spare fuses off Maplin to keep in my car just in case this happens again. Never happened once with either of my previous cars, I assume the wipers/washer are either more sensitive to icing or are on a higher rated fuse on most other vehicles.

Wouldn't surprise me if the dealers have a sweep on the number of cars coming in with this problem on the first really cold day of winter!

good quality screen wash at a good consentration is a good idea at this time of year , either the correct VAG stuff or Autoglym , which works for me

can i add my name to the 'broken' wipers crew

my washer froze yesterday with the -6° temps. then when i tried them this morning neither the wipers or washers were working, got some fuses tonight but not tried to swap them over yet.

cant believe how common this is.

In fact I don't have any fuses at position 21.

Fuse 21 is for the heated washer jets which don't get fitted to UK cars (despite what the Skoda brochure used to say!)

My rear wiper stopped working recently in the cold weather. I assumed it must have been iced to the screen, but it wasn't. Started working again after about 10 minutes driving. I can only assume water got in there or something.

Turns out mine was a resisitor on the stalk or behind the stalk, i wasn't really paying attention but they worked when i picked car up. Thing is though when i started it up everything was fine, then i tested the wipers, yep ok then i thought lets try the washers and everything went dark. Car was still running but interior lights including dash had all gone dark so I switched it off and turned the ignition back on and everything came back on except that it wouldn't start. The battery seemed like it was dead, managed to jump start it from my dads car and drove it about for a few hours (during which the wipers failed) and this morning it was fine, took it to a garage to get the battery tested and it came back as ok except the wipers but the fuse had blown

its all good fun.
