Double Din Units fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Ok as I am so knew to the whole fabia thing i just want to confirm a few things. Is it definitely a double din unit that you need to buy to replace the standard fabia vrs head unit? Also is it worth buying the upgraded manufacturers head unit the one with the sat nav/dvd facility over and above an aftermarket one as I have had mixed experience with these units before and would welcome thoughts, comments from guys that have had them fitted.

Thanks

Charlie

you can replace with a single or double din.

you will need a plastic cover from the dealer to cover a section between the heated rear windscreen, asr, and whatever other buttons, and the head unit.

double din is a bit of a mission to get all the cable to fit in nicely, but it's worth it.

Like Adam says, a single din fits fine- the blanking panel for the extra gap is cheap from a dealer.

is the gap you refer to the one that is like a cubby hole under the original stereo?

Cheers guys

Charlie

if you look at this picture posted by Adam in another thread, you can see the gap above the double din HU.

The blanking plate to cover this is readily available from a skoda dealer for a couple of quid.

The same gap is present if you fit a single din hu, and the same blanking plate is used.

The double din facia adaptor looks so much smarter, but is technically only suitable for post 05 cars.

However, with a little tinkering it can be made to fit pre 05 fabias and it looks so much smarter than the single din unit (like it was designed to be there in fact!)

Don't forget you'll need the cabling adaptor and aerial booster/adaptor. All available from ebay!

Trust me, with a decent file and a bit of ingenuity you'll be glad you fitted the double din!!

i didn't need to use a cabling adapter or aerial booster when i fitted my double din unit.

what does the double din facia adapter look like?

My fabia came with a single din aftermarket hu, i removed that, removed the cubby hole and my double din slotted straight in with its cage, i dont know what this double din adapter thing is? :S

Hi im thinking of changing my stock cd player for a double din unit, just wanted to know how easy they are to fit?

Or is it worth paying a audio speacilist to fit it?

I have a budget of about £300 for a double din unit. Any ideas on good ones for that price?

IMO you need about 450 for a decent double din head unit, although you could get an older model without some features like direct ipod connection for closer to 350.

they are fairly easy to fit if you don't mind a bit of dremel action behind your dash to try and get all the cabling to fit in. if you aren't confident doing it yourself then get an audio place to do it, but it really isn't rocket science.

Kenwood DDX 6029 DDX6029 DOUBLE DIN DVD MONITOR SCREEN on eBay, also Monitors, DVD Players Monitors, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Jan-08 22:56:03 GMT)

that is a fairly decent unit, although it's not got a load of features the 7029 has, and it's only £100 cheaper.

IMO you would be best off saving up a bit longer and getting this....

Has anyone fitted a standard VAG sat-nav double din unit in a Fabia????

the official VAG double din looks rather smart. You can pick one up on ebay for about £160. As for aftermarket double din. I got the other half a v nice kenwood one from Car Audio direct last year for £150 yes that's right £150 - sound quality bloody good even on the standard speakers and its completely ipod ready.

Fitting - I never do it myself I dont touch electrics. if you but from Halfrauds they will fit it for £30 for you anyways.
