New Iridium plugs= broken coil packs

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just fitted some new ik20 denso iridium plugs.Whilst taking it for a quick spin 100yrds down the road came bad misfires.Vag-com brought up random misfire on cylinders 2 and 4.Why should this happen?

The thing i should have done but never was gap the plugs but could this really knacker the coil packs? When i got back i did gap them but there was still a bad misfire.I put the old ngk ones back in and still misfire.

My coil packs are all J versions and my car is a 2003 model so out of warranty.I don't suppose skoda would just swap em foc would they?

I used some NGK iridiums at my last service and havent had any issues, although all 4 coilpacks were renewed a couple op months beforehand. They are L revision ones.

I asked Skoda about mine and they didnt want to know sadly.

These are Denso iridiums

I cant see why theyd massively different?

i'd say it was just bad luck and either coincedence or the fact you had disturbed them.

we had teh same sorta thing thsi week fitting new rear clusters to my brothers focus, all lights worked fine until we changed the clusters then the brake filament of a twin filament lamp stopped working. looked like it was the original and must have been on the verge of going :)

Well i rang gsf and bought four bremi ignition coils total inc free p&p £64.16.

Bremi is supposed to be the o.e supplier to the vag range so hopefully they will be original gear.

With a bit of luck the new plugs and coils may even cure my hesitation blues......nah doubt it

I have now gapped them to 0.7mm but im nervous about putting em back in.Coils should arrive fridayish

Try gapping to 0.65 / 0.6mm. Berrretta found that worked well.

Yeah i know Mike i tried that with the standard plug but it seemed to make the car appear a bit slower.Denso recommend 0.8mm so when i get the nerve to fit the Iridiums back in iam gonna try 0.7mm.

Simpson salvage wanted £15 +vat for each coil which would have got me back on the road but jeez their secondhand.

Its gonna seem a long wait until friday i miss driving her already :(
