Clunk when reversing... power steering knackered and now the coolant is on the floor!

Featured Replies

I am sat in a garage, miles from home... my octy has now bled all over the ground... Stalled pulling out of a petrol station this morning, put into reverse, let the clutch up quite shaply - THUMP!! Thought maybe engine mount, fine in forward gears, carried on to work.

Checked under the bonnet when I got there, noticed power steering fluid around the reservoir cap... driving home tonight, seemed fine, power steering died momentrally and then came on again. Pulled over, cheked fluid level - well over the max and hot.

Drove to garage, bloke drove it and thought it was ok, then steam... coolant hoses apparently sawed through by aux belt.

Just had cam belt and aux belt changed...

HELP!:(

Go back to whoever changed the belt and play hell with them

:iagree: - There's not much room to spare there, and they've clearly not fitted the aux belt right.

Thanks yeah I will do... I got leant a Volvo now so I can still get to work. This bloke had better sort it out... but thank goodness a) I wasn't on the motorway B) the engine didn't overheat.

Bloke that did the work looked at the car this week, turned out to be bolt missing from the "dog bone" engine stay... We are not sure how this can be anything to do with the cam belt job... anyone have an idea? The guy will fit a new bolt and coolant/power steering hoses for free anyway - fair play I reckon.

If they jacked your engine from underneath to get at the cam belt they may have undone the "dog bone" mount to allow the engine up. Then they forgot to do it back up.

HTH

At least their sorting it:thumbup:

:iagree: , although I'd have expected them to remove the arch liner, and just the end mount, without needing to touch the dog-bone.
