Locking Wheel Nuts

Featured Replies

I just don't understand!

I saw some locking wheel nut caps or something for a pound in halfords today but didn't buy them as i was confused.

I thought locking wheel nuts were just replacement bolts with a weird head that only the supplied tool will fit on top and release them but the ones in halfords had a female socket as if something would srew into them. How does that work?

Have seen some on ebay going cheap and they also have the little sockety thing too:

4x Wheel Locking Nuts Skoda Favorit Felicia Octavia B2 on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 15-Jan-08 20:57:03 GMT)

Would these be suitable... i have a felicia with skoda alloys on btw..

Thanks in advance

phil

The one's in that picture look like they have a straight tapered seat type, rather than conical which is the type needed.

I was lucky and managed to pick up a set of genuine Skoda one's for not much on Ebay a while ago.

edit: ignore last post. See above pic. I meant you will need rounded seat bolts, and the one in the picture of the ebay auction looks like a straight taper.

Ah yeh... they shouldn't really be saying that they're for the felicia when they're not going to fit properly.

I mean they'll fit but won't be seated right on the wheel and could cause damage!

Cheers.

Will have a hunt around!

P.s. this is what i saw in halfords... just these locking caps or something:

Those are fine

Which ones? The second ones?

I don't even understand how they can possibly work....

Firstly you are getting yourself a bit confused:

Wheel nut - a nut (with thread inside the nut) with a taper to locate the wheel

Wheel bolt - external thread & a taper to locate the wheel

Cover - hollow cap that goes over the head of a nut or bolt to keep the muck off it.

So do you have wheel nuts or bolts on a Felicia? If nuts then they will fit (the ones in your last link are wheel nuts), if bolts then obviously they wont.

Clear?

As I discovered from my M62 incident, you DO put something inside the locking one to release it. You fit an adapter in the wheelbrace then that in turn fits into the locking nut to undo it.....

You don't get an entirely separate wheelbrace, just an adapter that looks like a spare wheel nut

General comment on the Fleabay stuff. Those look like straight cone seats, which IME are only used on steel wheels.

Loz, the only difference between the 2 sets of nuts is whether the adapter goes into or over the head.

Yay!!! I get it now!

I forgot that some car already have the bolt sticking out!

I have bolts on mine so i need locking wheel bolts not nuts!!

Will get one the bolts out in a bit and try and find a suitable locking one to match the length and shape.

Phew! Glad my moment of total confusion is over! hehe

I already understood how the locking bit works that you get the little adapter it was just the locking nuts that were confussling me!

Thanks guys!
