What is this part ?

Featured Replies

I just came across a garage receipt amongs the bits of paper I got when I bought my MK1 Combi and curious to know what it relates to.

The work description says:

Supplied and fitted new cam cover and replaced vacuum pump.

Parts used:

038103469E Cylinder Head - Price £55.46 +VAT

There is no known history of engine trouble and it had only done 42k with one owner when I bought it.

Any ideas ?

It's the rocker cover but I can't find a picture on ETKA at the moment..

Here you go:

You can just about make out the '14a' which is highlighted. It's the rocker cover+gasket on a 1.9 diesel.

I've got to know; just what the deuce goes wrong that needs a new cam cover!?

Thanks guys but Oi KenONeil, that's my question ........................:D

My guess would be damage to the lip which seals onto the head... maybe someone levered it off with a screwdriver and damaged it so it wouldn't seal? Or maybe it was cracked? Either way I bet it was caused by human error.

KiNel, sorry mate. What was supposed to be being done at or just before the cam cover replacement? I have great difficulty in thinking of anything that would justify this.
