Paintwork holograms

Featured Replies

Hiya,

Now that winter has meant the car isn't polished as often I am really noticing some swirl marks/holograms from what looks like a machine polishing session!!

Is it possible to hand polish these out and if so what products am I best using??

If not does anyone know a valeter/body shop near Hull that you would trust to bring the paint back to some sort of perfection??

Cheers

You could try Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine.

I believe it has been manufactured to help out with holograms and light swirls. Prices vary.

Keep your eyes open for Halfrauds 2 for 1 on Autoglym.

Holograms can be fairly easily removed, just remove the wax/sealer thats caused them and re-apply taking a bit more care (easier said than done as I often get them ).

Swirl marks are a different story and the only way to get rid of them is by machine polishing.

As far as I know there aren't any detailers in Hull, there is bloke at Stamford Bridge near Pocklington, apart from that Leeds in you nearest bet. Try some of the pro's on detailingworld (A20 LEE and L200 Steve both do really top quality work) and see if they are prepared to come this far out. Look to pay £2-£300 :eek:for paint correction.

Before spending that kind of cash I'll have a go at tripping and re-apply.

I bought a wax kit in a halfords sale thingy so is it best to use that first and then re-apply the wax etc??

Cheers for the advice

Which wax kit was it? If it was the Mequires 3 stage system then just follow the instructions on the bottles. Holograms are basically caused by either using too much was/sealer or not leaving it long enough to cure (or in some cases too long). Take a look on detailingworld as there are some very good guides on how to look after your car.

It depends, if the holograms are in the paint from polishing, you might be able to do it, but I found scratch X has little effect on VAG paint.

What do you usually wax/polish with as that probably has some fillers in it which hide the marks.

Smeary marks would mean it could be the product you apply, but I think it sounds more like the paint is damaged.

Might be worth getting a suitable applicator and some Menz 82RD, however bear in mind that without a UDM/G220/PC machine doing it by hand would be very very hard work and the results won't compare at all.

Hiya,

Sorry I meant to say mequiers clay bar kit to be honest.

I've been using Autoglym polish and then the autoglym sealer.

I have also tried the meguiers plish as well tbh.

I tried to do it quite regularily over summer and it was only in high sunshine you could see the marks. However since it hasn't had much washing over winter the marks are more obvious.

I did ask at a bodyshop and they recommended some 3M fast cut plus stuff. Not heard of this hence my post.

Cheers

I have tried the scratch x stuff and it has made bugger all difference.

Cheers

How deep are the scratchs?

As I said, if they are only small try something like Menz 82RD on a suitable pad or better still see if you can borrow a Dual Action polisher from somebody and use it on that with a mild pad.

The AG you have is full of fillers so it will mask them very well until it starts to wear out.
