Key question - quick answer needed please.

Hello.

The missus has just phoned and told me that she can't find her key

She has lost her key somewhere from getting out of the car on her sisters drive to going in the house, or somewhere in the house. They've had the house upside down and have looked around the car but they can't find it.

She is getting a lift home to get the spare, however, in the spare the battery is dead. Is this going to cause issues. Obviously she will be able to get in the car, but, will she be able to start it?

Is there some kind of transponder that needs the battery for it to function, if you know what i mean?

It's a 2003 Octy vRS if it makes a difference.

Thanks

she should be able to start it - I had to do this once when my keyfob wouldnt work in a car park I was in.

Thanks Angry Dog

Next question :P Where can i get a replacement from? Roughly how much and will it need coded or anything?

Ebay do some, but tbh, i'd probably go main dealer.

cost, i dont know im afraid.

It would need reprogramming, but if there is someone near you with vagcom i'm sure they'll assist you :)

When you get a new key make sure that the 2 you have are recoded so that the missing one is wiped from your immo system as if someone "finds" the key it will be useless to them

Panic over. The dozy mare has found it :)

It had fallen down the back of the settee. Not just behind the cushions thought, it had fallen right into settee, so much so that they had to slash the lining on the bottom to get it out.

Many thanks for you helpfull and prompt replys though gents.

I'm Glad your sorted, my dear wife lost the only keys for her Seat ibiza last year and it £170 in total by the time I got it sorted :mad:

£170 isn't that bad compared to some makes. As VW use the SKC log in system there is no prerequisite to have a working key. Some makes require a lock set, immobiliser unit and may be an engine control unit at a cost approaching £1000.

Dare you to try that with my Mrs! ;)
