Door Carrier Removal - Remove door lock or not

Featured Replies

Hi

Looks like I am going to have to re-place the window regulator as it has sheared off the rear cable thing on the back of the door carrier on the passenger door of my sons year 2k Fabia Comfort.

The regulator is working and I am looking for a replacement cable bit on the rear that it blots in to- see items wanted as I am sure someone has one somewhere. Failing this I was thinking of using suitable bolts after some careful drilling .

1.Now I have read the excellent articles on replacing the regulator but need to know -- do I need to remove the door lock when I remove the door carrier or not and has anyone got any pictures etc.

2.Also do I need to replace the rivets which I need to drill out to relase the carrier.

3. Whats the best sealant to use when replacing the carrier.

4. Finally Should I drill or bite the bullet and buy a new regulator and if I do what do I get in the kit?

Cheers Big Gazs Mum

When I do them I remove the door catch with the regulator which means that the lock has to come out to disconnect the exterior handle.

The carrier is bolted to the door on a 2001, the only rivets you need to drill are those that hold the speaker on.

I've used silicone in the past, though I have heard that you can get sealing cord from Skoda. Don't lose the seals on the trim/loom clips.

Skoda do not do separate parts for the window regulator mechanism. The regulator comes complete attached to the carrier which has a seal, the only other thing that you will need will be the rivets for the speaker.
