Her Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi, Newbie here in Hants.

Her 9month old Fabia vRS bought at Xmas was sold by the dealer with a new steel 16" spare, marked with the 50mph warning as usually found on the "Skinny" spare...I guess this is because of the weight differential? What did you guys have in the boot of your new FvRS, steel or alloy?

I also noted that there was no screwdriver in the boot kit...it's end is used to replace the wheel bolts when replacing the wheel, then of course tighten with the wheel brace. It's impossible to place them with fingers, on an alloy.....

How do you put the bolts back into alloy wheels without using the end of the screwdriver please?

Finally, is there an alternative for buying replacement plastic caps, which go over the alloy

wheel bolts, other than trudging to the dealership?

Cheers, Strauss.

None come with screwdrivers now.

Put the caps on with your hands?

Buy the caps from a dealer there not expensive, we keep them.

I have a full size steel spare and must of my nut covers have come off

Oh yeah full size steel by the way!

Ok

1. The spare is labled like this because sometimes it can have directional/assymetric tyres fitted meaning if you fit it to the side it's not ment to go on it will cause handling issues. It's a "cover your Butt" kind of thing. They are all black steel.

2. Screwdriver - This this was discussed before and the conclusion was there is no need for a screwdriver. There are very few normally headed screws on the car and even few a "user" is supposed to touch if you get my drift. You can replace the wheel bolts with your fingers, this is how I have always done it, TBH I can't see how you would use a screwdriver to do this :confused:

3. Stud caps - None that I have found. You might be able to get generic ones but the real ones are cheap and some dealers will mail order.

Thanks for your prompt advice all;

If you look you will see that there is a hole in the end of the wheel bolt facing you...the reverse end of the screw driver is supposed to fit into this to allow one to correctly position the bolt for tightening with the wheel brace....

Can anyone tell me if the standard alarm system is Thatcham rated?

Thanks.

Strauss.

The alarm is indeed rated. Go to the Thatcham website; you will see it listed as approved.

TBH I can't see how you would use a screwdriver to do this :confused:

At one time, the screwdrivers in VAG toolkits had a 17mm socket in the handle.

my nut covers have come off

:rofl::D

Im sure you can find a srewdriver to fit the gap, they came with the LUPO GTI and the seat ibiza cupra. I bought a spare tool kit for my Cupra so robbed the Screwdriver and put it in the VRS.
