My New Toy... Some Woes.... Help??

Featured Replies

Right ho chaps... (And ladies of course!)

I got my Skoda Felicia GLXi 136 1300 today... I love it... It works well... I had 80MPH quite happily...

But, going around roundabouts... There's a knocking noise and a vibration through the steering wheel... It doesn't happen on FULL lock... But most other times at over 10mph or so... :o

Help!!! :D

Also, the AirBag Warning light is on constantly...

The garage bloke said he could sort it for £700!!!!!

:eek::eek::eek:

the knocking. i would check all the nuts an bolts of the suspension setup were tight and so on (easy to check if you know the car well) after that i would be looking at the outer CV joints.

as for the airbag light. err, vag.com anyone?

Knocking = pinkskud's advice. may well be outer CV joint.

Airbag light: Could be a true airbag problem (which probably is expensive) but IIRC the airbag light can also indicate over- or undercharge. Have you had a flat battery lately? Have you checked the current? Should be 14 - 14.5 V over the battery with motor running.

If charging voltage is OK you could try to reset the ECU:

Haven't tried myself so I can't give guarantees.

Disconnecting the battery will not reset the ECU... have tried that and from time to time doing this can even trigger the airbag warning light in my experience.

It must be done through VAG-COM or by a garage.

Ask in the VAG-COM or regional meets section to see if there's anyone in your area that will reset the airbag light and also see what has triggered it... will get a fault code.

If its something simple like mine has been (from disconnecting airbag and battery) it will say something like resistance too high.

I'd definately say that the knocking is the outer CV joint... so get them checked.

Good lUck

deff sounds like the cv joint, just had the same problem with ,mine so i replaced the whole driveshaft for next to nothin. no noises or probs at the mo. also dnt know if tis me but noticed a slight increase in nippy ness from percy.

The airbag light isn't worrying me at all... I'll remove the bulb... Simple.

I'll get the CV joints checked ASAP.

The battery is charging (No Battery light on, everything works), the only thing is, I do notice, with the hazard warning lights on, the dasboard lights dim slightly.

To get a fault code on my previous cars (Vauxhalls) I could always use a paperclip in the diagnostics hole under the bonnet. No change of this on Skodas... ?

How much was the whole drive shaft to replace?
