Thanks for that well spotted:O current car in memory bank.

Sounds like a well specced car, a proverbial 'Christmas tree'.

The engine is a 2 litre TDI with 170PS but you probably already knew that ;)

There are loads of different theories and opinions on running in.

I've run in 2 TDI's like this and they have been fine using only small amounts of oil:

Be gentle for the first 500 miles and don't thrash it from day one, no full throttle and no high revving. After 500 miles gradually work up to full throttle and higher revs until you are past 1000 miles then drive as normal. Just my personal opinion mind and if in doubt, consult your user manual.

The engine will not fully loosen up until at least 10,000 miles.

Watch the oil level too as the engine will use it. The orange warning light will tell you the black stuff is getting low

Feel free to ignore bits of this post depending on what you already know :o

Sod that, thrash it from new (but not cold) for better power and fuel economy :)

Pick my new VRS up on sat 01/03/08 only ordered it last sat. show room car!!!

remember to take it on long runs, or on motorways every now and again as the DPF filter is prone to clogging and the soot needs to be burnt off. If yo fail to do this the car eventually can go into limp home mode and the filter will need to be replaced, if you search there are a few threads about it.

Car sounds very nice indeed! However, with regard to running it in, make sure you just vary the revs quite a bit, give it some beans (although not quite to the redline), get the engine to work quite hard... and you should end up with low oil consumption, good power and good economy.

The WORST thing you can do is baby the engine for day one, bad news...

vary the engine revs for the first 2,000 miles (ie no cruise control on the motorway),

let it warm up properly before "giving it some beans",

don't let it idle for too long (esp from cold starts), and

don't lug below 2,000rpm under a heavy load.

The idea of giving a TDI motor plenty of right foot right from the start is to increase the pressure on the rings and force them to bed in to their cylinder walls properly. Gentle driving (and excessive idling) can cause them to "glaze" and you never get as good a seal (causing less power, poor fuel economy and higher oil consumption).

Even after your engine is run in it is still a good idea to regularly "give it some beans", as this will help keep the variable vanes on the turbo from freezing up (a known problem for TDIs that are always driven very gently), plus it is fun .

How long is a long run? Or how many miles on a motorway?

That I don't know, as I said if you search the subject you will find out more.

I will be giving it some from day 1, 200 round trip to work every day, mostly M27, M3 and M25. Cant wait 1 day to go .

Don't wish to put any sort of damper on pickup day mate but speaking from experience, have you had it confirmed that ALL your options are fitted as per your orginal order? Specifically, Light Assist.

One too many new factory ordered cars have turned up with this missing, mine included. Mine was retrofitted but it did spoil the collection experience a tad...

Sure everything will be fine but worth a quick call to confirm.

Enjoy the day, let us know how it went.

Oh and welcome to the monster torque club - its very addictive! :)
