Octavia brake light change

Featured Replies

Hello all, my first post please bear with me.

A colleague of mine has just told me that my nearside brake light wasn't working on the way in this morning. I haven't managed to get hold of a cheap haynes manual yet so can anyone tell me how easy it is to change a brake light bulb on a 99 Octavia? Step by step instructions and some photos would be superb... or maybe thats asking too much.

Thank you

:confused::confused::confused:

Never actually done it myself, but I'm sure it's as simple as.....Remove cover pull out bulb/bulb holder, change bulb. Refitting is reverse of removal (haynes speak)

Open the boot, and look left. You should see a cover with a couple of twist locks on its top edge. Turn them 90 degrees and fold the cover down. You can now just about see the bulb carrier which is held in place by plastic clips.

You'll need a 21/5W dual filament stop/tail bulb to replace the blown one.

See how a pro words it, thats what I was getting at :rofl:

The hatch back doesn't even have a hatch... just a floppy bit of carpet which can be pulled to one side.

21/5W dual filament?

just changed the bulb in my 99TDi. a single 21W filament is what came out and went in. It is **** easy, pull the carpet out of the way, then unclip the bulb carrier circuit board, i think it was three clips, two on one side and one on the other.

I am fairly certain it is the second bulb from the top that does the brake light.

Ah yeah... the Hatch uses a single filament... I'm not sure if the estate is different.

Apparently it is. My guide only applies to the estate then.

Oh my god, that was sooooo easy. Pull back crapet, clip clip clip clip put back carpet job done. One of the easiest cars I've ever done.

Incidentally had to do the front side light too, looked in the manual on the off chance and hey presto who needs a haynes book. Full explanatin adn another 5 min job.

Used to take me hours on the Jeep Cherokee.

:):):)

Sorted !!!!
