Clutch adjustment

Featured Replies

Hey all.

Just wondering if anyone could offer some advice as to whether its possible for me to adjust my clutch pedal/cable? the clutch is biting right at the very top of the pedal, only have to push it quarter of the travel to make a gear shift. i'm not a very motor minded chap but I do like to have a go at stuff.

I'm assuming that the high biting point is due to worn clutch,W reg 1.9 Gli D on 62,000 does this sound right?

i'm hoping someone magical person will tell me that this going to be easy to fix as a new clutch really isnt in my budget ATM.

Any offerings would be great.

Cheers Ging.

The clutch bite was very high up on mine for ages, at last service the Skoda garage adjusted the cable and made it a lot shorter, doesn't indicate problems with the clutch itself unless it slips, ie uphill in 3rd/4th

cheers guys,

to be honest I couldnt say if it was slipping or not, but jus took her to the tip with a small load and she chugged along nicely even up a decent hill so i'll say that its not slipping. gonna go get the bonnet up and look at adjusting the cable... only way to learn is to try in my opinion!

When the cars stationary, give it some revs, stick the car in fifth and release the clutch.

If it stalls the clutch is fine. If it doesn't you may need a new clutch.

Mine would have cost £225 in total (£75 for parts at my local dealer and £150 labour) but I got a disount after fixing my mechanics sat nav and laptop.

Got a new clutch, cable and gearbox oil.

It might be worth getting the cable changed/examined.

I doubt the clutch is worn itself though but you never know as my sisters Micra needed one at 54k miles but the car has had multiple owners and didnt have a service/maintenance history. A risky purchase back in 2005 but it is serving well.

Mine gave up the ghost at 101500 miles before it needed replacing and I'm assuming thats the first time its needed one as I bought it at 75k miles back in 2006 and I'm the cars 2nd owner.

What happened with mine was that it wouldn't engage the gear. Def have a look at the cable first.

A new cable cost me £13 from my dealer

cheers C_sisko. jus had a play with the nut at the end of the cable, as i had read in other threads that one just adjusts the pedal height, and lets u rip open old cuts on ur thumb and bleed all over ur spanner! I'll try the 5 gear stall/not stall so as can be sure if its slipping or not. If its fine is adjusting the bite point of a the clutch a dooable job or a job for the garage?

I have no idea how easy it is to adjust the clutch yourself.

Thats why i take it to my mechanic.
