Feeler thread

Featured Replies

I've got a supermicro full tower chassis that I'm debating whether to keep or sell.

I've attached pics to this thread, but what does anyone think about the value of the item.

It's solid as hell and would come with an EPS (24 pin ATX 420W) redundant cooling PSU. The thing was designed for Dual Xeons. IIRC when I bought it the thing retailed at about £200 inc the PSU.

I've also got some Xeons, RAM, A Mobo and drives etc, so would I be better selling as a whole server.

If anyone is interested then drop me a PM.

At this stage it's just a feeler though.

That is one ugly-*** case :P

Is that a Yamaha SCSI CD writer in there?

So this is the hulking great server case ive heard all about. lol

I would have thought it would be more interest/value to someone as a complete working unit.

I always have browse around on ebay and see whats selling at the moment and for what... that should give you a good idea.

Phil

PSU would be worth more than the case.

If it's a big heavy barstard I doubt you'd shift it on Ebay, postage would be too much unless someone would pick it up.

You'll probably find it easier to flog it as parts. Quite easy to shift spares there but most people are quite savvy and you don't get that much. You'll get a bit for the Xeons not so sure about the rest. If the memory is ECC it'll be worth a lot more.

Yes and SCSI DVD ROM above it.

I've got a few SCSI things going soon :)

This was my desktop as I used to do a hell of a lot of number crunching and needed the horsepower and outright speed. SCSI put less load on the CPU so meant more of it was free for working :)

Yeah postage isn't an option.

The Xeons are Matched pair of 2.66GHz a 2.8 Ghz and a 3.0Ghz. Have heatsinks to go with all.

The Memory is 4-8GB of ECC , possibly buffered, DIMMs

The mobo's are tyan (working) and a supermicro (untested).

The Tyan has PCIe and onboard Graphics, the Supermicrto an AGP slot and onboard SCSI.

Yes the case is ugly, but when you have it stuffed full of 10 & 15k drives (The additional drive carrier is out in those pics) , optical drives and Dual Xeons, the things never went above 55 degrees even at full bore.

That's quite impressive bearing in mind the sheer number of cables in there.
