I've told that the 2.0T lump likes to drink oil for the first 6k or so, mine has dropped a tad tbf. Obviously need to top it up, the sticker under the bonet says that it has shell helix in there from the factory. So was gonna get a litre to keep it topped up...17 quid for a litre??? :eek: Are they havin laugh? No wonder Shell announced record profits this year! I mean, I used to get 5L of PD oil from VW direct for 30quid!!!

The Chap at sportstech (my local Revo garage ) didnt really rate it, said that the long life stuff was better. Thing is, Skoda have me on the 20k service plan, but Im sure I'll need to get the oil changed before that.

Question is, do I pay the 17 quid and top it up and hope the oil will be fine (which the dealer says it will.....) Or, change the oil now for some better stuff?

I use the Shell Helix - No problems.

Anything that meets the VW spec listed in your handbook will be fine.

The Shell Helix is long life oil and its definitely not £17 from my dealer.

As Stu says if it is VW507 (please confirm) then it will be fine.

Thanks for the replys guys, is the 5w 40 or 30 stuff I need? Does VW 507 cover both oils?

The stuff I use has "for VAG petrol engines" or something on the bottle

It's 5W-30 and if it's any help, Castrol Edge is pretty good stuff

I have some of that too. I prefer the free shell stuff though
