Fabia vRS Bulbs blowing every few weeks!

Featured Replies

I've had my Fabia for about 16 months now, and for the first 6 months or so I didn't have any bulbs go. Since then I've gone through 2 pairs of headlight bulbs, and 2 or 3 brake light bulbs.

The 'bulb blown' warning beep and light is intermittently coming on again now when I use the brakes. I say intermittently because it does it occasionally when I brake, but the warning light doesn't stay on, and it doesn't happen every time I hit the brakes. This is the same way at least one of the previous brake bulbs went.

I've bought all the replacement bulbs from Halfords, if that's a consideration. My first thought was that it's them selling dodgy bulbs, but I'd imagine that when a bulb's blown it's blown, and I'm surprised that the warning sound / light seems to be intermittent when the brake bulbs are concerned.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks,

Stuart

When fitting the replacement bulbs, are you touching them with your fingers (i.e. the glass part)? it seems like a large number of bulbs to go through, I had my Fabia vRS for years and did 70k ish in it without changing the bulbs other than to put in uprated ones, so it is surprising.

Worth checking what the max voltage is when the engine is running, volt meter across the battery terminals when 'charging' will give you an idea.

I've definitely not touched the headlight bulbs with my fingers. However, I have touched the brake bulbs. I understood it was only headlight bulbs that you shouldn't touch with fingers? Am I wrong?

I think I need to find a friend with a voltmeter and test it. Is there anywhere else I should test as well as the battery terminals? What figure should be expected?

Thanks,

Stuart

Ideally avoid touching the glass, headlight bulbs are vastly more sensitive as they get a lot hotter so it can burn up/out.

I believe it's 14.4Volts when charging (max). If it's higher than this I'd say there is a fault.
