broadband issues

Featured Replies

I need some help,

My broadband has gone all silly and I don't know how to fix it. If I plug the cable in from the ASDL line my modem works for 10 seconds then cuts out for a minute then works for 10 seconds. If I plug it into the phone line then it works but only connects at 3 meg opposed to the usual 8.1 meg. I have changed the filter and the cable but to no avail.

Shall I just contact orange and see if there is anything that they can do or is there a simple explanation?

Im with Orange and if I leave it for a few hours or a few days it then goes back to normal.

Worst call centres ever. Half way around the world.

Before you contact orange, turn the router/modem off for 15-20 minutes and leave it off then turn it on again.

This can fix a multitude of problems and it is the first thing they will tell you to do.

Modem probably has a reset button somewhere ...might be worth a try

Do you have a filter on every appliance that connects to the phone line? All phones, Sky tv etc. This can often cause problems and go unnoticed!

Also as said before try turning both the router and modem off for several minutes (at the same time) and restart them.

No idea what router/modem Orange supply, but most routers will have a basic connection log so you should be able to see the connection sequence and if the router is bringing the link down (and why) or whether the link is being brought down externally, eg as a result of a problem on the line or with the filter.

I'm guessing it's a problem with the router/modem and would definitely try the reset mentioned above.

type http://www.configuration.adsl/ (or click the link) into your browser and it will connect to your livebox.

You can then look at the livebox settings and curent connection.

am currently on the std speedtouch modem, I do have a livebox but not the receiver for the PC. It does seem strange that it works through the phone line plugged into the modem but not through the adsl line into the modem.

Have pulled the wires off a few times to re-boot it, but to no effect

Pull the power and leave the power off for 15 minutes.

That causes the DSLAM to give you a different connection rather than your existing one which is usually torn down after about 10 minutes.

If Orange had network issues or BT then there may be stale items in your current connection, hence the 15 minute wait.

Try the latest firmware

have just tried that, and again it connects for a couple of seconds then goes down again, my little adsl light starts flashing away for a minute then goes solid so I try re-connecting and the same thing happens. Have just swapped wires again with the phone connection off the filter and it has connected at 3.1 mbps.

bloody silly thing!

still not solved it, oh well going to have to speak to someone in India who does not understand what i am saying, fun fun fun

How long has it been like this ?

it only started a few days ago, a week at the most. It's weird that it works through the phone port of the filter but not through the adsl port. I have even tried system restore to see if there was anything that could of affected it but no luck.

Most common problem with the livebox is the grey ADSL cable that is supplied with it. Due to it having a molded end and being connected on the bottom of the livebox these breakdown. First thing to try is either swap it round so the other end is in your filter , or swap with a normal one from another router. I have swapped 4 of these recently for intermittent connection problems.

Although just reading the last post looks like you have other crazyness happening:)

Tried a new microfilter?
