Xenon Option Code?

Featured Replies

Hopefully you guys can help me on this!

I have just bought a 56 reg Octi Estate L&K and want to know if it has the xenon lights fitted. I have read elsewhere on this forum that if you can see the "eye" in the headlamp then it is xenon. However I have read somewhere else that Skoda have started using the standard halogen bulbs with the "eye" projector rather than a reflector!

I have tried entering my option codes into the excellent site at VW Group Option Codes Decoder however I can not see anything relating to the headlights.

Does anyone know exactly what option code represents the xenon lights?

Cheers

an easy way of looking is by the light switch. If you have a dash light dimmer dial and a headlight level roller switch by the headlight switch, then you do not have xenons as they only have the dash light dimmer switch due to having auto headlight levelling.

Another way is to take out one of the headlamps. If the case on the back has torx screws keeping it on then it is a xenon unit.

Other tell tale signs are when the lights switch on, do they "warm up" and get brighter over the first 3 seconds?

When you switch the lights on do they do the "self level" dance where the lights will dip and rise whilst they perform the self level.

Do other drivers flash you because they think you have your main beam on, when all it is the brighter xenon lights?

Another item is the Xenons have Headlamp Wash as part of the spec. Tell tale is a rectangular cover about 1" x 1.5" just below the headlamp unit and when you use the screenwash you get a huge great spray onto the lamps.

Final tell tale; is the dip beam a wonderful intense blue/white light and if you use main beam they look yellow by comparison?

washers come on all elegance/l&k spec cars, regardless of what headlamp it has

 I agree this is the quickest / easiest way to be 100% sure they are fitted (or not!)

Not if they are set up correctly they shouldn't.

They do however give you a crisper whiter light than a std halogen bulb (just like an LED bulb gives off a very white light)

I'm itching to know whether you've got them now! :o

OK thanks for the tips . Unfortunately it has confirmed what I suspected no xenon:( Bl**dy salesman lied/got it wrong!

Too late - but the relevant codes for UK spec are:

8JX twin headlamp, for driving on the left (gas discharge) w/ integrated high beam

8Q3 automatic headlight-range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)

Don't worry, everyone with xenons then moans about the low beam/high beam integration, so no one is satisfied!

Cheers,

Les.
