Rear brakes size

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the rear 256mm vRS discs will fit the callipers on the 1.8T which usually have the 232mm discs? Is it worth fitting the bigger discs and new pads on the rear?

Thanks

No idea but I'd not bother anyway. Unless you have a 4x4, and load it right up regularly, the dynamic weight distribution goes towards about 90% front under heavy braking, so the rear discs do next to nothing.

I feel I may be asking a silly question, but why would having a 4x4 affect the weight distribution under braking? I only ask because I do have a 4x4 which is occasionally loaded up, and I need some new rear discs.

You would need the calipers and carriers as well as the discs and pads.

The vRS rear brakes wouldnt fit a 4x4 as the rear axle is different, for that your would need TT/S3/R32 rears.

Thanks, Lummox. Just to check before I buy, I have the 232mm discs, right? (2001 4x4 ARX - Haynes says "all 1.8 excep AUQ").

Yup, 232 solid rear discs.

232mm x 9mm solid.Need a set soon for mine.Let me know how much you pay.

Thanks

Will do, although it might be a few weeks before I get round to it - got a few months before my MOT and the car still stops. There are a few on eBay, although I'll probably pop up to GSF. Only problem is that their website doesn't seem to list the 232mm disc - just several other specific sizes and a few unsized ones. Don't suppose anyone knows the product code...?

I don't know make or part number, but I paid just under £50 for rear discs and pads (2WD) last week.

On the weight distribution point, the Haldex, extra propshaft, diff and rear drive kit all weigh more than the dead beam alone.

Oh, I see. That makes sense.
