What Fabia?

And welcome :)

Rhiwbina ......................I know it well

We'll need more details mate, though you may be better off nipping into the fabia section.

How old is the car and what model

Surely a two year old car is still covered by warranty? 3 years is Skoda UK standard (unless its an import IIRC). Or do you mean you have had it for 2 yrs but got it 2nd hand?

Who said its not covered by warranty, and what was their reason?

Thats what I was thinking, if it's a local Cardiff dealer they could be trying their luck. It sounds like one of their lines tbh, like when my seat wasn't cover as I had sat on it :confused:

Go to Capitol in Newport, they're awesome :)

Hi

The clutch is not covered on warranty as this is a wear and tear item

It does not matter how long you have had the car , the age or mileage as wear and tear can kill a clutch

With the clutch being hydraulic it can wear quicker if it used with the foot resting on while you are driving

I saw a Fabia come in with plumes of smoke coming out of it with 1k miles on

That was not covered under warranty as it was all but melted and the lady driver was resting her foot on the clutch

She swore blind that she didint but it was completely worn when it came off

The clutch is only covered under warranty for mechanical failure

So sorry , that could be right

Yes thats right two years old they say its wear and tear at 20000 miles The Skoda dealer is charging 590 pounds to repair it It seems such a lot I dont think i ride the clutch Its a disel 1100 Thought others might have experienced the same problem with clutches

You could Upgrade :)

Oh - Welcome to Briskoda :D

Hiya.

What are dealer labour rates like in Cardiff? I think that would be too much in Glasgow, where they're only £50 an hour, unless the quote includes a new flywheel anyway.

I had a clutch and flywheel changed under warranty by Griffin Mill in Pontypridd, that said mine is Dual mass flywheel which are known for breaking early.

@ Ken are the fabia 110's using a DMF if so he could possibly argue the point that they are crap and maybe get a warranty claim. Altough if it's the dealer I am thinking of he's got a better chance of a ride on a magic carpet as they are ridculous with warranty work. iirc they charge about £80 an hour in there, not that I have been anywhere near there in over a year

I know about DMF issues, but not about which Furbies have one.

For the OP, make sure you get the "broken parts" returned. There is a good possibility that (subject to your car having one) the problem is a known Dual Mass Flywheel issue, and not the clutch lining. In this case, it should be a warranty repair.
