Headlamp protectors affecting mpg?

Featured Replies

Something hit one of my headlamp protectors the other day and destroyed it (glad it wasn't the xenon headlamp unit!) I took the remains of that one off, as well as the other untouched protector.

Anyway, since then my mpg has gone up. On the way in to work tonight, I would have expected 45mpg maybe 46mpg at best going by the traffic, though I averaged 49.4mpg. Usually to get that I have to really concentrate and not put my foot down at all.

All I can think of is that the headlamp protectors were messing up the airflow over the car.

Is this likely, or am I just driving it more gently without realising??

Headlamp protectors are to be honest a sore point for me as they do nothing for the light output of any headlamp however I understand why you have them on the car.........

As for effecting MPG this is more than likely possible but I doubt you would notice it that much...............

Not sure they'd effect your mpg or not. When I had my car venture shielded they covered the headlights as well. Seems to have worked so far!!

Ben.

They were on the car when I bought it. I didn't think about the affect of the headlamp output to be honest. I probably will leave them off (not buy another pair) and see how I get on.

Most people don't to be honest mate..........
