inaccessible gap between windshield and dash

Featured Replies

I should have used the pass/ticket holder plastic clip but I was in a hurry and dropped a parking ticket on the dash, it slipped into the very thin gap between the windshield glass and the dash. I tried several stunts to get this parking ticket paper slip out, but no luck.

I am wondering what purpose does this gap serve? Is there easy any way to get this paper out? I hope this gap is not part of any A/C vent which might get blocked by this piece of paper.

thanks.

Have you tried using a vacuum cleaner?

thats going to be my next attempt.. needs a bit of work as the power socket in my garage has conked. I swept the gap with a thick corrugated paper, but the fishy didn't bite.

but why this mysterious gap? it can potentially collect lot of muck over time.

other trick is chewing gum on the end of a dull wire hanger end...

Sounds like a total pain in the neck...

Hope you get it sorted soon...

I had exactly the same happen to me - a piece of tape on the end of a stick got the ticket stuck and retrieved.

I must have about 10 down there now luckily no important ones

this might work. thanks for the tip. though i am afraid i may have pushed the paper deep into the gap while attempting it to get it out. chewing gum can make things worse. but isn't it weird that this gap exists!

VW Transporters have this gap too. Maybe it is the VAG interior designers way of getting back at people who clutter up their fantastic dash design with mucky bits of paper ?

Or more likely something to do with designing them to be easier to build (if there is a gap then a dash slightly out of tolerance will still fit). Whatever it is you can be sure maximising profits is is the motivating force behind it.

i tried everything suggested here. i lose, and the VW designers win.

does the black plastic dash expand when it gets hot?..I would imagine there need to be a gap to stop it pushing againts metal or glass?
