LCD display doesn't light up, sometimes....

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 55 Superb Elegance 2.5 V6 TDi. The SatNav/Radio console LCD panel sometimes doesn't come on. But the Radio etc... still plays OK. If I switch it on/off about 3 or 4 times it eventually lights up. Is it due a failure? The warranty runs out in August so I need it to fail before then, not after!

Mine does this from time to time too. I assume you mean that the MFD computer readout between the rev counter and speedo? The mpg, and outside temp are shown ok, but the radio display etc. doesn't show up?

Mine usually clears and works ok the next time I use the car, happens about once a month, not really bothered, but it can be annoying if you are using the sat nav and it stops working, as it prevents the display for that being viewed too.

No, sorry, I mean the large display that sits beteen the buttons n the actual SatNav/Radio console itself. The dash is fine. Dash sometimes says some German stuff that translates roughly to- "Your satnav isn't working". But it has always done that. The large LCD screen not lighting up is a new-ish thing to happen. Happens about once every 3 to 4 weeks presently.

In that case, I would definitely say the unit was faulty, and get it replaced asap. Sorry for the confusion :)

I have had a similar but not exacr problem this morning. I have a 55 plate Elegance and have had no problems with the Audio/Sat Nav equipment until today. I usually switch the unit on and off by using the ignition (in other words I do not use the on/off switch on the console) and the unit comes on as soon as I switch ign on and goes off as soon as I swirtch ign off. Unitl this morning - it would not come on (did not light up, play or anything it was as though it was turned off). I pushed the on/off switch several times but still nothing. I thought perhaps a fuse had gone or more disturbinlgy was this a start of the water ingress problem. I drove for about 15 mins and the unit came on all by itself and has been perfectly ok since? has anyone had this problem or any views as to what it could be. The car goes out of warranty in Noiv so if there is a problem I would like to get it sorted before I finish up paying I believe £1800 for an exchange unit?

Regards

Thanks for those thoughts. I have asked my usually very helpful dealer about it. It only happens about once every 3 or 4 weeks upto now so unlikely I can actually show the dealer. The dealer response is that they can't replace the unit unless they actually do see it faulty. I actually don't think they're being too unreasonable really. Will it show a fault on the electronic diagnostics at all?

£1800????? Wow.

I remember reading a thread quite a long time ago (12 months or so) and the member had said the unit was £1800. i also checked on the Skoda web site at the time and this was confirmed. So I hope things have changed???

If you report it now and the unit fails later you should still be able to claim for a replacement, hth.

I'm taking the motor in the week after next to have a piece of trim fitted, I'll try that angle, thanks.
