Wanted: '99 Felica (Fun) Lock Barrel

Featured Replies

Just before Christmas, the driver's side lock broke. Up until about 3 weeks ago, I'd just used the passenger side door to lock/unlock the ute(pick-up)

One sunny Saturday morning I decided to take the lock barrel out, to see what the problem was. It was a small, stupid die-cast aluminium thingy that was broken, held into place with a spring and cir-clip. I thought, "Cool, simply go to the local wrecker and get an old barrel, don't need the key or anything!!"

That was three weeks ago. Only one of the wreckers I have contacted was of any help. But the problem is that he is waiting for the Felica to be delivered. It's always just another couple of days away.

What other cars have the same lock barrel as the '99 Felica, or does someone have an old one laying about?

Thanks

Ute-Bloke

I imagine this is something a Skoda dealer would have. I also imagine Jorily Skoda shop on ebay (Graham) may be able to help.

I imagine they're the same on the Felicia, there does not appear to be any locks specific to the fun in the skoda catalogue. It *looks* like up to the end of 97 the left and right one's are different, whereas starting 98 onwards they are interchangeable left to right, so you may be able to just swap the passenger and driver's ones over leaving you with a broken passenger lock. From what I can tell, with a key code they should be able to make the lock to your existing key - but I guess that would be expensive.

Looks like they have those nasty plastic covers over the locks like on the Favorit.

Thanks. Just thought it would of been easier, and cheaper to get one off the wreckers. I don't need the full barrel, which the Skoda dealer has already tried to sell me.

Is it possible to swap the keying over from one barrel to another? I currently have a broken lock and was wondering if I should just swap and use a different key or try get it sorted so it's keyed to the same key.

Yes it is possible to swap the internals over so that you don't have another key, more often it is easier to swap the bit off the new barrel that you want. The door locks are not handed. Try SKOspares for a used one.

Ah I see a circlip on the end. I assume it would be a fiddly job? Does the interior come out in one piece?

Don't suppose it's anything like this? Rebuild Door Lock

It's not too different. The bit that's broken on mine is the "sprung activator"

I'd imagine it's more a of "tedious" job, changing the keying over, rather then "hard".

For my job, I only need to remove the cir-clip, install the sprung activator, and put the cir-clip back on. 5 min job (with the right tool)

What is it about Fun locks??? We bought our Fun last november, During one week of each other in January both drivers and passengers locks fell apart, passenger's permanently locked, driver's permanently open. A friend had a look and said there is a post manufacture central locking sytem fitted and connected to the alarm. The alarm is disconnected, presumably something wrong with it. He said the locks may have broken because of the extra force needed to turn the key against the defunct central locking motor. Anyway, we're stripping the central locking and alarm out and two new lock kits from main dealer cost £44.

You're welcome to the old ones!!! (only joking)

The central locking should in fact be controlled separately to the alarm system, and should work when the key is turned in the locks.

Would be a shame to see central locking ripped out when you could even upgrade it to remote central locking with a new alarm system for about £100 self-installed - if you have some understanding of the electrical system, the haynes wiring diagrams come in useful for that.

Apparently it is good practice to spray white lithium grease into locks every say 12 months maybe.

Although I have to admit to breaking one of my own locks recently while trying to install central locking on a car that didn't have it originally - and I believe that was probably due to what you think it is in your case, extra force needed to turn key - but then again I believe I had the motor pull rod attatched badly so it dragged on the metal of the door creating extra resistance, oh well live and learn :o
