Scratched Dash Plastic

Featured Replies

Any ideas how to get rid of a scratch across the clear plastic covering on the dash ?

I was polishing it and I think there must have been a piece of grit on the cloth and I dragged it right across the whole display piece. Now I have a bit scratch going right across :(

Must admit, this is on my Corolla .... thankfully not my new Octy elegance, but I know you guys are nice and helpful !

I take it you mean the instrument cluster; speedo, rev-counter lens?

T-Cut and lots of elbow grease.

If its a deep scratch start with something more abrasive and work down.

Brasso or jewellers rouge is about the finest you can get.

Keep rubs to one-direction not round-and-round.

It will take a LONG time and on the dash lens will be awkward in-situ. You may get a bit of distortion as well if you do a lot of localised polishing.

It does work I assure you, but is a lot of effort

OK thanks for that !

I am doing a complete valet on it on Friday (if it doesn't rain !) using the LifeShine care kit from the Octavia so I will follow your instructions also.

go for brasso as that is best, IMHO, for polishing up the edge of cut plastic sheet.

That should leave a really good finish especially if you polish over the whole surface.

brasso might be too abrasive, as it's for metal surfaces IMO. Never tried though.

I've used displex Displex - HOME to remove scratches on my car audio, 100% satisfaction.

I used duraglit on my mobile once it took yonks to get it off as you have to remove a couple of layers of plastic to get the scratch out, bought a new one in the end, easier,

Brasso - Brilliant for getting scratches out of CDs and DVDs though :)
