L&K Spare Wheel Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

Picked up my new L&K Estate today and after a slightly more in depth inspection of the car at home I discovered that the steel spare wheel is shod with a Bridgestone tyre whilst the four alloys on the car are shod with Michelin tyres.

Is this normal?? Any new car I have had up till now the spare tyre has been the same brand.

Can anyone advise please?

cant say ive ever checked min but ill have a look in the morning. does it matter that the spare is different as with your 17" alloys (and the spare being a possible 16") youre only going to use it in an emergency then put it back in the boot?

weird.

i'd take it up with the dealer. it is not critical but as a safety measure all wheels should be as identical as possible, including the spare.

check the tyre ratings and manufacturing date. do they match with the rest of the wheels?

Just checked Škoda on this to be sure and the current L&K comes with;-

17" 'Sputnik' Alloys (space saving spare).

I would expect that you have therefore got, as I have with my vRS, a 16" steel spare with a 205/55 R16 tyre. You are therefore only going to use your 'spare' in an emergency and then put it back in the boot after.

Don't worry; just enjoy the smell of Leather in your new car - Mmmmmm!

Spot on, my L&K has a steel 205/55/R16 spare, the wheel well isn't deep enough for the 225/45/R17 wheel.

The tyre brand is irrelevent and I think mine is different to the Bridgstones I had on the other 4 wheels (not a bad thing!) You have a speed limit with the spare fitted too.

If you've got 16" plus alloys the steel wheel is usually a different size hence will have a different tyre anyway. Not sure why it matters anyway?

16" alloys come with an alloy spare.
