Dad's just bought an Edition 100

Featured Replies

Just over 23k on the clock, didn't look to be any chips or scratches and apart from needing an interior clean it seemed in very good condition. Just under £12k, does that seem ok or a little high?

What kind of things might he expect to go wrong? It's the TDi 130, so I know it's a good engine from what I used to read on UK-MKIVS. Is it realistic to expect 50 mpg?

He was looking at an X-Type Jag estate on a 54 plate for around the same price until he saw this. I hope the Superb is a better buy than the Jag :)

Oh, yes, the "Jag" is only a Mondeo.

Well he traded a Mondeo in for the Superb. I know the spec is a lot better on the Superb.

We sat in it today, and I'm amazed at the amount of room in the rear let alone the front.

50mpg is not attainable during regular driving. Car is toooo heavy! I did a 700 mile round trip to Belgium a few weeks ago and averaged 43mpg cruising at about 70mph. Around town I get about 30mpg. Mine is a TDi 130 (Although mine is an auto box).

Lovely car to be in though. I hope dad likes it as much as I do mine.

I paid circa 11k for mine (55plate 52k miles)

BTW I read somewhere that only the Mercedes S Class has more rear leg room!!

No it's not, it has a Jag badge on it..... ;)

There is no problem getting 50 mpg from a 130 PS PD diesel as long as it's not coupled to an automatic gearbox.

In the old torque convertor autos fitted to the Superb the losses are huge due to the high torque of the diesel engine. If you compare the CO2 ratings for each all will be revealed.

This is why VAG has developed the DSG transmission for the later models - it's the only sensible way to have an automatic transmission with a high torque diesel engine.

My 130 PS PD managed 57 mpg (measured brim to brim) on a clear motorway run from London to Nottingham with the cruise control set to 70 mph. That suits me fine - pity it won't do that with my trailer on the back.

rotodiesel.

My pd 130 Superb always did at least 50mpg on a long run and about 38 average on short trips around town......enjoy the Superb it's a great car

I've a Dec 2005 (55) Edition 100 Auto. Absolutely love it.... fantastic car! Paid £10.5k privately for it 12 months ago and get low to mid 40mpg on a half decent motorway run.

The number of people who stop to comment on how nice it looks amazes me! Never had that with Mercedes ownership!

It's a fab car imho, good buy

Many thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I'm pretty sure he'll be pleased with it. He's liked the Superb for a while now, so landing an Edition 100 should be a bonus I guess.

Looks good cleaned up properly, and the wheels look really good.

I'm looking forward to giving this one a good detail.

Your gonna detail your dads car? I can't even get my 23 yo son to pass the tv remote!!

:) I quite enjoy doing it to be honest. I'm not the greatest at detailing, but I don't think I'm all that bad. Plus I'd like to use my wax on a black car too.

I need to get myself some new clay bars and I think I'd like to test the Menzerna kit too.

Be careful with black, it scours really easy and looks worse than before you started, I know cos we had a VW Polo brand new in and my mate managed to make it look like a Torvil & Dean special edition.

Too true, and that was my main worry with the black. I may well just go for filling the swirls than trying to remove them.

Very soft cloths and a wax that doesn't have cut but does fill, cream ones are best.

And what do you know? Are you some sort of expert? :naughty:

I managed to sweet talk the owner of the Skoda garage into lending me the 100 he had for sale for the day when i had to have my Superb seviced..i fell in love with it but one thing put me off..and that was it had a slush box.. shame really as i told him if it was a manual box i was going to look at swopping my Superb for the 100..

IIRC ALL 100's had slush boxes fitted..

Slush is lovely, mind you I'm an auto man myself anyway, I love em, have done since my 1st one, a 3.0 V6 Capri Mk11

Nope he's bought a manual.

Have a look at the 2010 road tax figure for the 130 PD Superb with an autobox - then compare the same figure for the manual.

Road tax - Parker's

PD130 Auto Band J £270

PD130 Man Band G £155

There are going to be some dirt cheap autos around soon - not that I would want one.
