Limp Mode after fitting PD160.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys/Gals as you may know i have just purchased a Fabia VRS, everything has been great apart from one thing which is really annoying me.

Fitted a PD160 intake and since then the car has decided to go into limp mode several times now, always on motorway/dual carriageway while plodding at 2000-2500 rpm and only in 5th or 6th gear, is just a coincidence that ive just fitted the intake?

Have had a mooch about at the turbo pipes etc and the ones i can get to easily all seem ok, i know its not a major problem as apart from this it performs brilliantly, any help would be much appreciated :)

Did you knock the maf sensor whilst fitting it?

I've just put one on the wifes about 10 minutes ago, but haven't even started it yet, she will blame me if 'owt goes wrong....

Dont think so have checked the plug on it and looks secure.

Mmm

Unless the MAF has packed up

My MAF failed just before I fitted my PD160 intake with the filter

Just a thought?

Dont know about anything else , unless you get it VAGCOM`d

If the maf had packed up, would it not be running rough, any other symptoms from a knackered maf sensor?

:iagree: a mates maf packed up and the car sounded like a bag of bolts. mut to say that it still may go into limp mode.

disconnect the maf and go for a drive if it feels the same the maf is gone

Scan the ECU with vagcom if you can find someone local to you on the Brisky vagcom map. (see diagnostics section sticky)

Probably an underlying problem somewhere and nothing to do with the intake or filter, time will tell, will keep ya updated.

What is the advantage of the PD160 pipe then? is it worth me adding one to my Fabia vRS?

Do you need to tell the insurance company about it?

What sort of cost are they then?

Where would I get one from (I presume the skoda garage don't supply them)

Does the fuel consumption go up much, bearing in mind i don't really tharsh it that much?

Cheers,

Ben

Just aid's the engine breathing, noticed when i fitted it that it was willing to rev a little higher without the power tailing off as much, probably should tell the insurance.

PD160 intake cost me £25 off a forum member, brand new in packaging and cotton filter was £40 from demon tweeks.

I'm getting my pd160 and filter for £40 in total, both second hand but I know the car it has been in.

I'm getting excited about getting it fitted will see if I notice it when giving it a wee run back tonight!

If you're off to get a remap tomorrow then hopefully they will do a "health check" before the map gets applied so you can find out if there's any obvious problems. If you want to rule out the PD160 pipe, you could always put the old one back on and see if it still goes into limp mode....

The difference is very subtle, just notice the power continues through the range a little.

for some strange reason the maf's on vw's go real easy i changed the air filter in a passat once and it went a good tip is just unplug the maf will drive ok just loses a bit of power

What sort of price is the Maf it it turns out to be that?

take the bosch part number and see what else has it you might be suprised by price difference the y use to be unreal money but now around £50 or less try eurocarparts and german and swedish as a guide price,, then look on ebay dont trust recon they dont last long its easy to fit and really is common, i had one changed on vw van lt35 it went after 2 hours

Has not gone into limp mode since remap which has been 2 weeks ish, but before that only seemed to happen when cold, as i am on the bypass within 2 mins of the house, which is when i use 5th and 6th the most .

Any reason why it would do it when cold as apposed to warm?
