Digi Tuning box fitting guide

Featured Replies

Hey all, I just purchased a Digital Tuning box off Ebay and it turns out that it came without instructions, im just wondering if any of you have any links to guides or pics to what i need to do, i know what to do basically, but would like to know the process of getting to the plug after i take the engine cover off?

Firstly I am basing all of this on a Dragon box but if it's advertised as digital it's most likely it needs to connect in the following manner...........

The connector is more or less here:

attachment.php?attachmentid=20452&stc=1&d=1206875084

If you look down that side of the engine you will see a round plug sticking out, it should look the same as one of the plugs on your digi box. It's the same as my old PD130.

There is a small red plastic tab on the OEM connector that needs to be pulled out slightly to allow the outer collar to turn anticlockwise thus undoing the plug. Be patient with it as those plugs are a total barsteward to re connect, there is a small plastic locator pin on the female plug.

You might need to remove part of the intake piping to access it all properly as it's in an awkward place IIRC.

Be careful with the wiring to the box itself as the gear linkage assemblies are just below it and have the potential to snag so make sure they are kept clear.

As for the final setup I can't really help but i know some digi boxes are connected AFTER the engine is running and some connect BEFORE. The former need to calibrate themselves while the engine is idling or they don't work properly. This refers to the later 7 setting dragon digi boxes :o

Oh and another little tip: if you do have to resort to stripping down the intake pipe be extra careful with the metal spring clip around the hose near the MAF. If it pings off the end it's a real nightmare to refit.

Ok, took some time and fitted the box today, just want to thank you all for your help! :)

now, i havent really noticed much of an increase in power yet, is this normal? do these boxes take a while to show results, i have fitted it correctly and i definately notice an improvement in enonomy, but not so much in power?

Was it programmed for economy, power/economy or power?

Also might be worth checking your jumper settings as well, you should see an instant boost in power, something along the lines of (fu*k meeeee) and a large grin :D

Does your tuning box have any LED's on it because there is definitely one model that needs to be connected after you have started the engine or it won't work properly.

Im not sure what it was programmed for, i bought it used from ebay, i had the cover off today and i have the 7 pin version. I dont see any LED though...

which way should i move the jumper? (it didnt come with instructions)

If there are no LED's then it's probably not necessary to connect after starting the engine.

I would start off on setting 4 and experiment. Change one setting at a time, take it for a spin and see how it goes. Obviously one end is full whack and the other end is minimal gain. I can't honestly remember which end is which hence why I say test it on different settings.

Okay on closer look there is small leds, what should these be doing?

Assuming yours is at least similar to the Dragon on mine, you should have a red and a green LED. IIRC, with the engine running, the red stays on constantly, and the green flashes. On your 'ASCII sketch', position 1 should give you the most power, and 7 should give you the best economy.

HTH

Daz if you go to Dragon performance web site they have downloadable PDF fitting guides and instruction files there.
