Fitting a new engine

Featured Replies

Just starting to fit a new AUQ engine to vrs, has anyone got advice on system of changing the engine or any tips what or what not to do.

Also i take it that the box will have to come out with the engine.

Do you have whole engine and box to refit, or just engine alone?

I would recommend dropping the engine out the bottom (removing subframe etc) as it's usually easier, plus the box can come out then too.

Just ensure everything is disconnected before trying to lower it - fuel pipework, water pipework, electrics, driveshafts, exhaust manifold, air intake.

If old engine is totally screwed might be worth taking the head off first to make it a little bit lighter / easier to handle?

If you're switching your gearbox onto the new engine, that should be a case of "remove" and reverse the removal process to get it on the new engine. Worth checking clutch plates / flywheel whilst there.

Fitting engine is the reversal of removing it. :D What kind of equipment will you have to hand to perform this? Is a garage doing it? a 2 post lift would be a great help, as would an engine crane.

I would renew little bits like the cambelt, water pump, tensioners, aux belt, all gaskets, etc as its a good opportunity. How new is the replacement engine? Oil + filter change would be good too.
