Featured Replies

After meeting a mate with another vRS we decided to check if we had a garrett or a KKK

i have had the feeling for a while i have and the pic off my phone confirms it,

kkk.jpg

he checked his and the smarmy barstool walked away safe in the knowledge that he has a garrett,

after snapping random shots i came across this one,

do the painted marks mean its a replacement from a scrappy????

need to source a garrett 1749va or vb asap, any help much appreciated,

Are the painted marks not from the factory to see where it has been tightened to/ torqued to?

Howd you check it mate, under car job? i cant be arsed to look lol.

Mines will no doubt be the kkk coz im unlucky

took the air box to inlet pipe off (the squeezy and bendy one)

then reached round and snapped aimlessly,

Alright lol! shall give that a go!!

The triple k turbos arnt that bad, they just need abit more love and attention.

Tbh if you try hard enough you can cook any turbo.

People on this forum are getting way too excited about KKK turbos all of a sudden. Theres really no need to panic, if they go they go

You have deep pockets though. /\

Im uprating at the minute, (after a little scare last week - air filter dropped into airbox creating an induction noise .. thought the turbo was going.. lol) might be after a bit more info about your turbo etc, will PM you sometime. just on the lookout for an FMIC at the moment

My KKK was replaced at 60k, just got another one on there and like skudmissile says, they just need a bit more love and attention.

If a turbo is going to go, it will. Just make sure you don't go ragging it from cold and also let it idle for a bit before you switch it off.

No point in spending money on a Garrett if the KKK one is going perfectly ok, unless you are going for the FMIC upgrade?

I think the red marks are for the torque and position settings of the bolts.

Theere are various prices for the new turbos, from Circa £400 to £1,000, they come as one lump too as the manifold is cast with the turbo exhaust housing too.

My whole car will be for sale in a couple of weeks, the car will be standard the bits will be in the classifieds.

Everything except the turbo, which has already been claimed by a very lucky someone ;)

I know it's different, but don't the 1.8T and the 2.0TFSi engines have KKK turbos? I'm fairly sure the Focus ST has one too and you only hear about the turbo on any of them when people swap them out to go bigger - why all the hoo-haa about this KKK

i think its just reading the number of posts and threads about people wanting turbos as theirs have blown after low mileage, etc and they are always KKK that go,

:iagree: AIUI, the KKK is effectively a knock-off of the Garrett, so while the materials might not be up there with the Garrett, the engineering should be comparable. Keep the revs down until it's warm, let it tick over for a mo before you switch off, and you'll be going a long way to protecting whatever turbo you have. Part of the reason I use a steering lock is to give me a bit of a 'routine' that I can go through while the engine's still ticking over... :)

You hear about the KKK going over the garret because nearly all the cars have KKK.

If nearly all the cars had Garret you would probably be hunting down KKKs

Only the very, very earliest cars had Garrett turbos, KKK all the way since - I wouldnt worry too much about it.

From what age were Garrett's fitted? And how can you tell the difference between them?

Not 100% but pretty sure it was only the first 'batch' or so - there was some info on here, try the search :)
